my gf's 95 altima se wouldn't start today. i checked all the fuses and fusible links, and relays, and all were good. we jump started it and it ran fine. also no brake light and battery light came on, so I'm pretty sure that the alternator is ok. when we went for a ride and got home we shut it off and tried restarting, but it wouldnt even crank. i'm thinking that just the battery is done, but before we buy a new one, I'd like some second opinions. thanks.

sounds like battery, if it turns over and wants to start, pop the distributor cap off, I bet its full of oil :)

it ran the same as it ever has, not sluggish. the distributor cap does not have oil in it, i did check all that ignition shit. if the battery was dead would all of the dash lights come on? they did. but i assumed that the battery would still have enough juice to light some bulbs, just not enough to crank the motor. battery?

start it up, put all the accesories on and see if it still runs, if it dies, ur battery is dead

your car will run without the battery connected. it will just be sluggish.

The handbrake light as well as the battery light will come on if the charging system is dead. Sounds like a battery or the starter itself. Did you boost it or push start it? I went through like 3 starters in my Altima before installing the DET

i used to have that problem in my jeep a while back. the problem was actually a loose terminal though, not a dead battery. i would just have to wiggle it and it would start right up.

the connections to the battery are nice and secure, although the + had some corrosion on it. I also checked the connection to the starter and they were all good. it's an automatic so we jumped it with cables and it started right up, so i'm assuming the starter is good. we didnt try turning on all the accessories when it was running, I was trying to let it charge back up. I'm gonna get a new battery tommorrow night. I'll let you all know what happens. thanks for the replies.

When you jump it, it starts. But will it stay running when the cables are taken off? When it's running, put a volt meter across the battery terminals and see if it's charging. Odds are battery is bad.
