: eclipse gs or 200sx se-r??
tg200ser 02-13-2002, 11:42 PM Hey, this guy in a 97 eclipse gs is wanting to race me in my 96 200sx se-r. I know the eclipse has the same 140 hp but im not really sure what the outcome will be, because i'm sure the eclipse was designed with more racing in mind than the 200-- but it may be heavier, i dont know. I was wondering if any of you have raced an eclipse or could tell me what you think. They are both 5 speeds and both stock.
Black200sxSER 02-14-2002, 12:26 AM The only racing a GS Eclipse was designed for was "racing" to the mall! It's a gurl car..! :D :D Stock to stock, you will take it if you can drive....
You have much to learn young grasshopper.. Do a little reading around and you will answer your own question. RS , and GS Eclipses are SLOW. Eclipses are also heavy cars. www.dsmtalk.com
NismoPC 02-14-2002, 10:54 AM Their all show and no go!
Make sure there is not a t after that GS. If there is then run away.
Otherwise, WHOOP ASS! Safely, that is, at a track!
2wdBlazer 02-14-2002, 03:59 PM Eclipse RS, GS & GS-T weigh roughly 3100 pounds.
200sx weighs roughly 2500 pounds.
Do the math. You will wax him. If he is turbo, he will wax you though.
spdracerUT 02-14-2002, 03:59 PM the eclipse GS is slow as hell! They weigh like 3000lbs and ours only weigh about ~2600hp. Same HP so guess who'll win? Even the GS-T's and GSX's aren't all that fast stock, pretty much low 15's. I pulled a GSX on the highway when I was NA.

MaddMatt 02-14-2002, 04:31 PM They may have the same hp number but that's about it.
I have an SE-R and a '91 Eclipse GS. The SE-R will kick it's ass every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Show him the hp/weight ratios for the 2 cars and see if he still wants to go.
Stiletto 02-14-2002, 08:28 PM all day and all nite you'll be in front, like everyone else said. the truth of drag racing: power to weight ratio. more power+less weight+good driver=winner.
just make sure he didn't scrape the "- T" from the badging. or just look under the hood. also look out for any NOS (SmoothDaddyFig translation: NAAAAWWWWSSS) lines and/or bottle.
happy hunting!!
tg200ser 02-14-2002, 08:58 PM this helped a lot. I was pretty sure i could beat him, but the only doubt i had came from an article i read off the internet. It was a test drive of the 200sx se-r and the author stated that the 200 was fun to drive, but just didn't have the "zip" of the mitsubishi eclipse gs that he had driven the week before. I guess this guy was just a dumbass. That dsm forum was pretty helpfull too. Gs and Rs's are pretty slow from what i read there. One more question too, what do you think of me going up against a grand am gt, or a neon r/t?
WhiteSER20 02-14-2002, 10:49 PM hey i actually just killed a GS on saturday.
i didnt even know he was racing, he takes off from the light and i hear the engine screaming im like "oh no you didnt" and i romp on it, and instantly the car he was up was reduced to me being up by a fender (through second), bang third and im up 2 cars, and so on and so on...
hey if you feel bad for him give him a head start hehe...
have fun, play stupid, and then kick ass!

as far as the grand am, it really depends on the year. a 99 or newer could have the V6 w/ 175hp, but it weighs 3000 lbs. also i believe they're only available in auto. chances are you'll take a grand am.
the neon r/t has 150 hp w/ 133 lbs. of torque. IIRC they weigh less than our cars, like 2400 lbs. depending on your skill as a driver you could also take on a r/t and win. i know i beat a couple in pensacola, but i also have something extra under the hood. ;)
ThomasSr20 02-15-2002, 01:20 PM Oh my god i don't you don't even know how bad i spank Eclipse RS, GS, GS-t.
You will walk them every gear like nothing
but the GS-t you will need some mod to beat them
SERracer01 02-15-2002, 11:41 PM Alright you'll be able to take the neon R/T no prob. The Eclipse GS-T will give you some problems, but I waxed one already with my previous set up. They always ask...What the hell do you have? :)
tg200ser 02-16-2002, 03:42 AM i'm racing the 97GS this sunday. Were only racing for 10 bucks, its kind of weird how confident he is that he will win but only will wager 10$, but i dont have a job so i cant afford much more anyway--(hope we dont get caught racing tickets are big fines here) But 10$ is over a weeks worth of gas so thats better than nothin. I'll tell ya how everything goes. thanks again, later.
Se-RiousRacer 02-17-2002, 01:03 PM RS= Really Slow
SmoothDaddyFig 02-17-2002, 05:16 PM Bro , do this:
Tell him you'll start the race directly behind him.
Like in a single file.
When you two take off just swerve around him and get in front.
I SWEAR THIS WORKS EVERY TIME!!!!!!
tg200ser 02-17-2002, 07:19 PM wow, i lost. What happened????????? I got a bad start but from what everyone is telling me i should have caught back up. Is there something wrong with my car? I've only been driving a stick for about a month and half, but i didn't miss any gears and even chirped 2nd. I know for a fact that this guy is stock. help me out here, what happened?
domiguy 02-17-2002, 08:44 PM did you take your car to redline through each of the gears?
tg200ser 02-17-2002, 08:55 PM yes i did. the only thing i can think of is i had two 12's in the back, but that shouldn't make my car heavier than the 3100 pound eclipse. I guess i could have taken em out, but i thought this race was going to be a breeze...
DaGenesis 02-17-2002, 09:13 PM ill admit i lost to an eclipse gs once too...
but i was completely stock and i think my timing was real low and it needed a tune-up real bad
the car felt like it would move at hi rpms and it would bog at like 6500
but now with the small stuff i got i think i wouldve killed that eclipse
but heres what u should do:
get a 91 cam, and a g20 ecu.. and an intake
and ull beat him and other cars u think that u would lose to
