i need help on my se-r, my intake makes a shotgun noise, at idle the beloved sr20de makes pinging noises, everytime the gas pedal is pressed the car shakes violently, and i can't rev past 5200 rppm, there is a huge loss of power, and i really need advice on how to fix such a problem. in the summer i am going to swap in a bluebird FWD but till then i need help. information on the swap would be useful too. thanks for any advice.:(

this part scares me. if you hear pinging then it could be detonation. that'll cause some probs and will kill yer engine.

My guess is ignition. Check plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Make sure all those are in good shape and post back.

but would detonation cause his car to shake violently? And I thought you generaly get detonation at higher rpms's, not idle. You said it makes a shotgun noise? Like a loud bang? Could it be possible your getting a backfire in your intake?

Here's my take, FWIW:

-Distributor set to major-league advance/retard of timing. And, I mean waaaay out there.

-Plug wires crossed/on wrong plug. Hey, it can happen.

-Fuel injector leaking/DOA.

-Distributor rotor is so far worn down/nonexistent.

-Crack in coil wire/spark plug wire(s).

-Obstruction in catalytic converter/blockage/meltdown.

well i do have a problem with my exhaust system, right after the cat, the exhaust was split into two so i had to repair the cheesy way, but it works. i used some kind of flexible pipe with clamps. i don't think that would be it and my rotor looks fine but the distributer is a little worn and still needs replacing. one of my good friends said it could be something like my valve springs inside my head and i should take it apart, i don't think so but right now, i am willing to try anything. i personally think it is heavily involved with the ignition and fuel and maybe electrical system. i just want to fix my sr20de so it runs perfect again and in the summer, i plan to install the mighty sr20det. i'm also wondering how compatible is the sr20det with u.s. sr20de parts and aftermarket parts? well i'm still hard at work with my beloved se-r, and thanks for all the advice, hopefully more on the way!

one question?

Did you change anything on the car just before it started running like that?

put in some gas?
changed anything?
repair anything?

yep, i replaced the stock intake box with a "sporty" air filter, recently put in 93 octane gas, new fuel filter, spark plugs, adjust clutch, etc. i still have to change my distributer, spark plug wires, and advance my timing. i doubt that will fix the problem, but i can always hope.

Almost sounds like your engine is in "Limp" mode. Since changing out your Stock intake, maybe check your MAF connection. Just a thought.

well check the plug wires first.... Almost sounds as if you plugged the plug wires into the wrong places. Especially if your problem started right after you did the plugs.

this problem occured due to my part i believe, i was actually stretching my se-r's legs and then i shifted at 7700 rpm to 4th gear and then BOOM! thats how my se-r is in it's current condition
i pretty sure that all the spark plug wires are in the right place and i think that my intake manifold has something to do with my current problem also. i never heared anything like it though. how do u fix a backfire in our intake manifold? and i have yet to check all my sensors, which i will do sometime soon, again thanks for your advice.

Line up crank to TDC, pull Valve cover and see if your chain "jumped". (intake mark: 10-11 o-clock, exh mark: almost 1 o-clock) Use a FSM to be sure. Only my opinion, but the 1st thing I would check from what you stated.

I'm with Chris, sounds like perhaps the chain jumped a tooth. This can happen. Inexplicably happened to 2 Honda owners I know. 1 destroyed his engine, the other got real lucky.

Hey...im new to the sr20de engine...i just happened to buy one by random chance because i needed a car for college...anywayz..i had somewhat the same problem but i fixed it. My car had all the symptoms as yours except for the shotgun noise. One of the spark plug wires popped off the distrubutor...this occurred when i attempted to burn some rubber. it was the first nite i had my car and i was still getting used to it...i didnt rev it high enuf and there was some major wheel hop. so if you havent checked them yet i highly recommend it.

how do u guys get a screw out of the valvecap if the head bolt just broke off? bring it to shop? DIY, how? safe with 3 or 4 bolts not on the valve cap to drive to a shop? i'm finally back to fixing my car and doing my timing and a bunch of more crap. where do u get the best deals on bluebird motors and level of difficulty to do install. what would be a "complete motor", = MAF, wiring harness, motor, ecu, and tranny? what kind of clutch would be able to support about 350+ hp? ACT? Clutchmasters? JWT? Does Extrude Hone and Swain Tech. really make a significant difference in hp? with Unorthadox Pulleys SS, custom cold-air, and custom 3.5'' mandrel-bent piping? expected wheel hp? 1/4 time? does low 14s and high 13s sound unrealistic with this current setup? or do i need a Gti-R exhaust manifold to increase in the 13s without slicks? well sorry about all the questions, but knowledge is power and i'm really curious...and determined. thanks for any advice.
