: turbo motivation
Victorious 10-17-2005, 11:51 AM Hey wassup fellas. I need some encouragement. As most of you know I've got a 2001 Nissan Sentra SE, and I've decided to follow in MirrorTints footsteps and go turbo. I've been able to source some parts, but now I'm realizing that I don't know how I'm going to get these parts installed. I don't want to get in over my head again (let's not revisist the engine swap debacle...lol) I'm starting to have second doubts - how am I going to drill and tap my block, install and wire in some larger injectors, install and tune emanage, install boost and oil pressure gauges, fabricate ic pipping, etc.:eek2: I wanted to get the car boosted by the end of the year, but now I'm thinking about scrapping this whole project. What should I do:confused:
mirrortints 10-17-2005, 12:04 PM Do it Z!
Mine is not boosted right now, just need to get that damn wastegate fixed. Anyways, you know this is way cheaper than buying a new car. I know I can easily let you get a copy of my e-manage, I have 50lb injectors, so you probably have to get those to match up with my tuning. I have the support tool cd also, so you don't have to worry about that.
Also, I'm sure the guys around here will step-up and help you with install (I know I want to watch and learn myself and being that you have a b15, that will be a perfect training tool).
Victorious 10-17-2005, 12:17 PM I suppose your right...I'm just getting a bit overwhelmed...
BTW, do you have any pics and details of your setup...I might need to use your car as a guide...lol
mirrortints 10-17-2005, 12:29 PM Check out my cardomain site, the list is on there. It might be after xmas when it's done, but don't just give up on it altogether. Psssht!
Oh, Greg C. has ALL KINDS of pics of my set-up. He took all the one's that are on cardomain and I'm sure he has more of em on his camera.
The only bad part is that, for my car, jason did a custom job on it. Joel and Corey said that it looks like I got a gti-r manifold AND fuel rail, plus he used the stock MAF and used the e-manage to bypass the a/f settings on just about everything after 2k rpms (which means you can use your stock MAF and not worry about getting a cobra maf). But, with my e-manage downloaded to yours, it should save hours of tuning.
Victorious 10-17-2005, 12:48 PM Do you still have your EGR, or did he remove that also?
I guess, I'm going to have to hit up Greg for some of your pics...
Does your ic pipping and dp hang lower than your crossmember? Because sometimes I scrap my crossmember on speed bumps.
Man, I'm trying not to get disheartened...I think the main thing is my lack of patience...
Slow 96R 10-17-2005, 05:41 PM Man, I'm trying not to get disheartened...I think the main thing is my lack of patience...
In all honesty, I wouldn't do it then. Having a boosted car that is not boosted from the factory is a test of patience in and of itself. The good thing is that the car will be fast. The bad thing is that something is always breaking, leaking, or going wrong. I now advise everyone to save up around $500 and get a beater for those rainy days when the boosted car is broke. As far as getting it done, that should be pretty easy. Both Steve and Bradly can drill/tap your block. I know of someone who has a storage space where we can get away from the elements and do the work for a weekend. IC piping can be done by us if you don't mind allot couplings, or welded for cheap by Ron L. Honestly the work is not the problem, your lack of patience is ;) GTIRoids
NEEDaSE-R 10-17-2005, 07:31 PM Personally i would keep the b15 the way it is and boost a beater. Something like a cheap se-r or nx. Once you have the beater then all is good, there is no hurry and if you dont feel like working on it then it doesnt matter cause you have a second car. Buy a $450 motor from soko, drill/tap the block out of the car,add pullies, clutch, flywheel or whatever else is easier while the motor is on the pallet. From my personal expierence this is th easiest and least stressful way to do it. And once everything is complete and the car hits 12psi the first time you will smile and it will all be worth it. Also if you dont want to be hassled with tuning buy a jwt, its easy.
B15sentraDE 10-17-2005, 07:47 PM i almost have all of my parts to boost my b15 man, your so close, i was thinking about giving up a little bit ago. coulndt find the info i needed couldnt get the right parts but i stuck with it and im still going strong, getting ready to do fuel pump injectors and afc in the next couple weeks. but its always up to the person spending the time and money.
NEEDaSE-R 10-17-2005, 08:02 PM Powertech imports makes I/C kits for b15's i believe. If they are not already making them they are soon.
B15sentraDE 10-17-2005, 08:12 PM ive also read on the forum about some DIY intercooler kits available
psushoe 10-17-2005, 08:30 PM They have been making them for a while... you just have to check on the wait time. I should be getting mine in soon (complete PTI kit). I will say I had to wait a while, but in the end it will be worth it. All aluminum piping, powdercoated, etc.
Victorious 10-19-2005, 04:57 PM Hey Joel where can I get a car for $500???
And I didn't know that PTI made a IC pipping kit for B15's with a BB turbo setup
Naghebe 10-19-2005, 05:34 PM Z,
I agree with Joel and Steve.
I think I can pretty much tell it best, since I have always been the only one whose boosted car was his ONLY car. Whenever Joel, Corey or Ralphy broke, they jumped in their other car and forgot about it until they were ready. I never had that luxury, if it broke, it had to be fixed right away...or no school and no work.
In retrospect I should have left my car stock, bought your B14 and put my parts on that one.
All in all, thats a big part of why I'm not boosted anymore......
My $0.02
PS - psushoe
In your sig, what the heck is a GT2871RS, dude, there's no such thing.
Victorious 10-19-2005, 06:55 PM Come on you guys are killing my dream.
Hey Ralphie are you willing to take payment on the NX...lol
blackb13se-r 10-19-2005, 08:47 PM my boosted car is my only car too. sometimes i wish i had a beater to drive.
webninja 10-19-2005, 09:06 PM my boosted car is my only car as well, but it took me a long time before it ran perfect. Now I drive it every day to work with a big grin knowing that the AC works, the tunes are good and the boost is just a dip of the throttle away (unlike joel who probably doesn't know what his car feels like off the boost)
NEEDaSE-R 10-20-2005, 12:14 AM I have a cheap se-r. It is a POS but is good for a beater/track whore. Let me know if your interested.
B-MoreNiSmO 10-20-2005, 07:35 AM keep your dreams alive im working on a project and still have not even close to finish my (91 se-r) im bless with 3 civics 1 integra 1 240sx 2 tsi conquest(another project) and 1 93 sentra xe aka(BeAsT)
Slow 96R 10-21-2005, 12:30 PM (unlike joel who probably doesn't know what his car feels like off the boost)
Ha, I do now! This stinka GT30R doesn't get boost until 3k. Now with the disco, oooooooooooweeeeeeeee! Instatanious boost.
zipstrips 10-22-2005, 07:32 PM just boost it!!!! start small and upgrade to your goal.
