There was a kickass 180 with th Silvia sr20det in it and kickin it with the S15 conversion headlight kit. Very sleek looking.
Was wondering about the possibilities of it. Was the 180sx RWD first of all? And if I were to find a junkyard 180 it would prove to be pretty cheap if the swap would work.
Thoughts?

yeah that car was defintely a kick ass car, and those s15 lights are a must have on any 240 to silvia conversion so if you got a rwd 240 w/a det and you don't have these lights something is defintely missing. Any ways aint a 180sx just a hatchback 240 and a silvia a notchback240. Just curious

Nope 180sx is not a silvia and it comes with the CA18det and the Silvia is the front that everyone talks about w/ a SR20det.

just look for the HB 240 from 89-94 it's the RPS13. It's RWD, The SR20's come in 3 formats. FWD, RWD and AWD. if u didn't know.

Both early versions of the 180SX and the Silvia S13 were powered by CA18DET's with both cars using a 6 bolt rear diff. Then came along the redtop SR20DET's and the 180SX got a slightly newer front bumper. So both cars got the redtop motors until the later 180SX got a slightly different SR20DET with a black valve cover but that was basically the only difference. There was a 180SX X-Type that came out which used a GTI-R block, crank, rods and pistons with the black top head on it and the stock GTI-R turbo but they weren't built in any real numbers. The S14 head designed changed as well as some other bits. The newer intake manifold curved upwards instead of downwards like the S13 redtop and blacktop motors. There is also a slight taper to the rear of the valve cover. The power increased with each version. Back to the question, yah its possible but at some expense. You'd probably be happy with just the SR20DET and might not even spring for the S15 front end unless your going for the show kind of thing in which case if that's your thing then go for it. Some rear fender blisters usually look alot better on a car when you go to that expense though. Then you can cut away the old fender and run some wider tires in the rear.
