: Question on EGR on highport b13.

I bought some headers for my b13 and i have a problem. I thought the problem would have been with the exhaust manifold head studs and them breaking. So i took out my radiator and front bumper and all the necessary items to get at my manifold only to find my EGR is welded into the bung. No shop wants to touch it and i dont have any money to dish out on a welder to do it myself.

My question is this.. has anyone removed their EGR before and if so, does it affect the idle, gas mileage, driveability.

Also, has anyone gone through emissions and passed with their EGR removed?

Thank you for your time.

What I did was buy another EGR tube, IIRC it was $27 from nissan. I know for a fact that my car will not pass emissions without it. The EGR shouldn't effect idle, as for driveability and gas mileage I have no idea. To me it seems to run the same.

when I installed my turbo kit I just crushed the EGR piping and JB welded the shit out of the end of it and my car works great!!!

www.nissport.com makes an EGR removal kit for EGR. it includes all the caps and plugs needed to do said task. the EGR can effect idle alot, if the tubes or valves get gummed up you can have a bad diving idle and can even stall out some times. if your car is supper clean it may pass emmisions without it, but i would say not likely. if i remember correctly EGR only helps with the NOx during idle and low RPM, once you get on it it dosent do much more than dump sludge into your intake manifold, the cat takes over during hard throttle.
