I was wondering is it possible to 'add on' the VLSD from a '95-97 into a '98? How much would a project like that cost.... would it save on labor charges if I did this during say a clutch install (i'm not mechanically inclined, so i know they're both part of the tranny, but when you're accessing the clutch, is the LSD right there etc. or what)... I know you can add on the Quaife's or whatever brand it was, but those run like 1000 dollars, ouch too much for me. I don't need anything fancy, but I don't like the fact that it was deleted in '98, so I'm thinking the cars are similar enough that adding it in , or in the worst case swapping out the whole tranny for it wouldn't be too tedious or a hectic job (for a skilled mechanic, not me :D )... any rough estimates on total cost of this ? i just hate it when i'm going through a turn and hit the throttle a little my tires squeal like a pig (will the LSD help in this respect)!

As far as I know (and I could be wrong). Is that the easiest way (and maybe cheapest) is to get yourself a 95 or 96 tranny (I also hear that some 97's had LSD - but confirm that first). And I believe one or both of the axles are different....
I got a tranny with about 40k at the local salvage yard for $450, and the axles for $100.
Good luck.

All 97's have LSD also. So just find yourself a 95-97 200sx SE-R tranny. I can't be sure but I believe you need something else to complete the swap.

Yeah, thats right, driver side axle. My buddy Ray K. put a 96 tranny in his 98 about a year and a half ago.
