: Idle drops after you shift to nuetral while rolling to a stop
Sunny 02-25-2002, 05:44 PM if you ever get this problem, this might be the solution.
there is a rubber tube that connects to the bottom of the EGR BPT, pull it, if you do not feel an air pulsation then the metal tube that connects it to the intake manifold is clogged.
in order to get to the assembly and turn it around to clean the clogged metal line:
* i also had to remove the PAIR assembly to get to the tube connected to the #4 exhaust primary
you might want to do some stretching before doing this (my back still hurts)
first disconnect the EGR tube (i do not know exactly what to call this since it is connected to the intake manifold then to the actual smaller EGR tube) that is connected to the #4 exhaust primary, then unbot the 2 bolts that (12MM if i remember right, also use a 1/4 ratchet w/ 1/2" extention to get to these tight areas) connect the EGR Tube to the Intake Manifold then to the metal line leading to the EGR BPT, then there is an 8MM bolt that connects the Metal line to the EGR BPT. once all bolts are taken out you might also have to disconnect the white ball throttle thingy to be able to turn the assembly toward you so you can clean the part that connects to the intake manifold.
i just did mine and it was clogged full of black soot, get some carb cleaner and spray onto the metal tube coming from the EGR BPT then spray/soak repeat several times, get a needle then start looking into the part that goes into the Intake manifold, the hole leading to the EGR BPT metal line will be clogged it's about the size bigger than a diameter of a paper clip stick a pin/paper clip in there and break away the crud buid-up. spray some more carb cleaner to thoroughly clean the passageways and let the cleaner evaporate before reassembly.
hope this helps in some way if anyone has similar problems.

martin_g34 02-26-2002, 05:14 PM Do you mean the idle drops as soon as you put the car in neutral or once the car stops? Because mine will stay at around 1100 after I put in neutral, but as soon as I come to a stop it drops to 800.
On another note. What are you doing this weekend? Wanna help me put on my pullies. I just got the belts and I'm ready for the install. I'm most likely gonna do it at my buddies shop since he has the pulley puller and the impact gun. Let me know bro.

DaGenesis 02-26-2002, 05:38 PM can we get some pics of what parts ur talkin about?
ever since i adjusted with my idle and timing, the rpms drop when i come to a stop and put it into neutral

Chris93SER 02-27-2002, 08:19 AM I'm having the same problem too. Thanks for the info, Sunny.

DEAD SE-RIOUS 02-27-2002, 11:50 AM I have similar problem but i have a jdm motor no egr crap any suggestions
Sunny 02-27-2002, 04:00 PM DEAD, look for any Vacuum leaks or clogged areas (i'm guessing here :D)
DaGenesis, sorry i do not have a Digital Camera, your best bet is to get a FSM and flip to the Emmissions pages and you will see the parts i described.
Martin, i will see you Sunday for the Pulley install
Chris, glad to be of service :)

DizkokidD 03-06-2002, 09:48 PM hey tevs this is whats happening with mines as well...
wanna walk me through it..
or should i just take it to nissan to have the whole fuel lines clean and everything..
my car keeps turning of on me and the idle goes up and down, down and up.. grr..
yesterday when i called you I pulled the plugs and walla those things where ripped in half.. i bearly made it to kragen and got them replaced. But today when i went to work (first day on a new job).. the car kept dying on me.. hopefully i can take care of this before i leave to vegas this weekend..
so anywho.. how long did this take you ... can it be done say at around 5 or so... i got a garage.. i just need to put the dogs outside.. lol.. i think grandma will get mad.. im just yapping away.. ok.. i might call you to walk me through it .. hopefully your ok with it..
kpw97 03-07-2002, 08:30 AM While we're on the subject of the EGR and what not. The vacuum line that comes from the top of the BPT and leads to the drivers side goes to small metel tubing. In the middle of mine you can feel something inside. I have always thought it was a checkvalve of some sort. Do you guys notice the same thing?
DizkokidD 03-07-2002, 04:47 PM eh..i know what your talking aboot
se_rious92 03-08-2002, 05:10 PM I'm going to try cleaning that all out. But here's the thing, and I do not know if it relates to this or not.... I actually replaced my entire idle speed control valve (AAC, FICD solenoid, etc. thinking this was the problem of my stalling when coming to a stop), but when I try to adjust my idle speed now (TPS disconnected), I cannot adjust it enough to go to ~750 rpms. It stays at ~1150 rpms... with the adjusting screw turned fully clockwise (to lower the rpm). However, if I put the car in gear (like 1st or reverse), then let out the clutch just to point where it will stall, then it idles at ~800 rpms. But, if I rev it a few times, back to ~1150 it goes. It was bad enough that replacing the idle speed control valve didn't fix the problem, but now I can't get it to idle at the correct speed. Any suggestions?? I'm starting to get somewhat frustrated... Thanks all! (by the way, I did take off my EGR and clean it all out with carb cleaner, and did a PARTIAL cleaning of that BPT tube)
DizkokidD 03-08-2002, 05:50 PM i took my car to nissan of GG in Cal,
they got it done now.. i havent gone to pick it up..
but they had dennis dawson top tech guy.. only one who works on my friends car so i trusted him.. hehe..
uh.. he said all it was on mine was the throttle cable was tight and the acceleration cable was loose so they fixed it and all they charged me was the hour they spent on the diagnostec test.
ill let you know if this stop it from dying. i will to clean my valve next weekend cause at 124k you know something has to be a little dirty lol
se_rious92 03-08-2002, 07:10 PM Let me know how it went Dizko... where is GG Nissan? Is that Garden Grove? I work in Irvine, CA and live in Long Beach, CA...
DizkokidD 03-08-2002, 09:29 PM Hey... yea its in garden grove.... and guess what yup that was the problem... they dennis had the reseted the wires to base idle and all is a go.. hehe. the idle never drops.. they did note the mechanical noise coming from the engine.. which i think is the TCR you know that little cricket noise i guess is what they call it.. ohwell.. ill fix that later.. uh... so.. it works and for only 78 bux.. i say coooool..... hehe.. i still need to clean the EGR vavle.. but thats another chapter on it own.. damn thats a comute.. lol.. i work in irvine and live in GG... so uh.. car pool lol..
i work for CNA trust ofF of bristol.. n you..
"on the quest to shush the engine on idle... and start up.."...lol
se_rious92 03-08-2002, 11:32 PM Hmmmm.... I'll have to investigate that option as well.... but I still don't think it's mechanical like that.... but if all else fails, I will try that as well. I work with New Century Mortgage off of Von Karman, near John Wayne Airport...it is a hell of a drive, but hey, it's a job! :)
Sunny 03-08-2002, 11:48 PM se-rious92 and Juan,

se_rious92 03-12-2002, 04:58 PM Hey Tev...
How did you get the tube that's connected to the #4 primary disconnected? I couldn't see a way of getting mine off... maybe I'm just blind! So for now, I just sprayed a butt load of carb cleaner down the tube that connects to the bottom of the BPT and took a long piece of wire and shoved it down there to at least clean the tube. It helped just a little bit, but I still have problems of my idle diving down almost to idling or just out right stalling. Just FYI, this is what I've done so far...replaced the entire Idle Air control valve (AAC, FICD solenoid, etc.), took off the EGR valve and cleaned it with carb cleaner, and cleaned the "seat" of the EGR that connects to the manifold, and have done typical tune-up procedures (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, regular oil and filter changes, etc.) Thanks again!!
PS. I MAY not be available ths coming up weekend, should you have a "geekout"... just depends on which day.
DizkokidD 03-12-2002, 05:11 PM oIL.. im doing an oil change tonite.. if any of you want to stop by and help me with the cleansing of the EGR valve.. how long did it take.. will i make it by sundown.
I bought me 1 5qt of mobil 1 synthetic oil from walmart for 18$ the oil here is at least 150 cheaper than target or anywhere else
now to go get me a nissan filter or should i just use mobil 1 like i have before??
hmm actually i think im doing a whole tuneup thing....
er n/m ill wait til sunday for the geek out...heheh at least a 3 person geek out

use an adjustable wrench, you will be able to do a 1/4 turn, remove all the brackets and

it is best to unclog it from the opening leading to the intake manifold
the tube thins down to the diameter of a paper clip, so the blockage might still be there
