I've been thinking about installing a few of these in my car for a while now... Since 89's don't have alarms, i think this is the cheapest and most effective way to keep car theives from getting my car.

The options i've found to install the switch into:
Ignition
Fuel Pump Relay
Fuel Pump
Battery Cable

Has anyone installed this on their car? Also, would the battery cable kill switch have to be on the ground, or could it be the positive?

thanks

One of my buddies did the Fuel Pump kill switch, then like two years later someone tried to steal his car & could not start it. He had to replace a broken window, but it beats having your car taken by a burglar.

On my 85 Nissan p/u, one of the kill switches is the stereo faceplate, the other one I cant & wont mention...:squint:

I installed one on my fuel pump. I have not had anyone try to steal it, but it just gives me the assurance it won’t if I have my t-tops off. IMO, do the fuel pump.

just a suggestion since I did car audio for so long....wire in the fuel pump or ignition off of the seat belt connector....that way the seat belt has to be attatched for the car to start. Works as a theft deterent and promotes safety!!! (Most thieves aren't going to fasten their seatbelt as they're trying to hotwire your car.)

My fathers freid wired a kill switch on my car before he gave it to me.. It consists of a little switch that unless its flipped up the car will not turn on and a alarm will ring and ring and ring and ring till either the battery dies or the key is inserted into the ignition and the switch is flipped up..

It is triggered if you open the door... whenever i get out of work people think i stole my car because the alarm always rings then they see me go under my steering wheel and turn the car on.

I'll take pics of it and ask him about it...

Well, my one of my brothers did the install, since he was the one to get his hands on the truck 1st. He got it to work with a Alpine cd unit, no face plate on, the truck will not start & its also wired through the fuel pump.

"the other one I cant & wont mention"... well, it still has another kill swicth, I just cant mention...:biggthump

wow, apparently i'm not the only one who wants to keep my car :)

I have to read some daigrams or something and figure out where the fuel pump relay is... setting it up would consist of:
Cutting into relay ground wire, run to *hidden* switch, run from switch back to the relay wire... i just have to figure out where it is.

the ignition one is a decent idea... but if you didnt do it "far enough" down, the theif could still hot wire the car... i'll just do both :D
The battery kill switch would be easy for me, the say my postive cable runs because of the relocated battery, i could hide the switch under the carpet

other idea's i've read:
Window shade/ mirror thing must be down to start, hidden in shift boot, seatbelt, radio faceplate, using safc settings (how?) and cig lighter. You can get really creative on how you hide the switch. The coolest thing i found... MAGNETIC switches

I would be careful doing that simply because of the fact that your battery wire can see upwards of 50-100 amps of current during crank, not to mention the amperage it sees when all accessories are running. Just be sure to use a high amperage switch...don't wanna hear any "put my fire out" stories!!! The radio faceplate isn't that hard if you're electronicly inclined. Open up the radio, find the wires that show continuity ONLY when the face is attatched, and use these wires as your "switch". Be careful though....depending on the model radio, there may be more than one set of wires functioning this way for the head unit. I did a radio face in the center console of a Maxima years ago and after extending all the wires w/ ribbon cable the eject button still did not work. Turns out there was more than 1 wire that told the CPU the face was "ON" and in the "CLOSED" position. Just a heads up. The cig lighter trick is pretty easy too...just disconnect it completely and use the 2 contacts on the back of it as your switch. When the lighter is pressed in it completes the circuit and the car starts....take the lighter with you when you get out and the car is dead in the water!!! I hope this helps.:biggthump

Run it to the fuel pump. If a thief gets your car started, it will sputter and die, making it seem like the POS 1991 car it is... :D

Theives are not going to trouble shoot cars. They might look around for something obvious, but if they don't find something quickly enough, they'll move on. The most dangerous time for them is while the car is parked where the owner left it. Most thieves aren't exactly trouble shooters anyway, otherwise they would be doing something more meaningful with their lives... :D

I drain 2 quarts of oil from my car. This way, the first time the thievin' bastards hit redline, they spin the bearings.:biggthump

i have the kill switch wired to my inigtion with a remote control that disables it. plus there is a toggle switch thats hidden that has to be turned on in order to start the car other wise the car's horn will go will the battery is dead..the main reason for this is bc i have a push button start. (no keys much easier).. but as far as the switch goes it a great item to have...have to say its worth the money
Stolen car>A little work and a couple of dollars
