If I can't set my timing by the distibutor, does that mean that I hafta set it at the cam??

why can't you do it by moving distributor?

the distibutor won't rotate far enough for me to do it that way.

yea I checked it and it is off, like 10* after topp dead center, so I moved it as close to TDC as I could, but it is still not set right.

then you're timing is off at the chain, cams.probably skipped a tooth or two.

How could it be the timing chain? Doesnt that control your mechanical timing, not your ignition timing?

I was looking at it and the distributor is attached to the exhuast cam, I think, so in reallity if the mechanical timing,or cam timming was of it would effect the ignition also. but I'm not sure. I guess I'll find out tommorrow.

no, ignition timing is not same as cam timing... if you can't do it thru distributor, the only other way I can think of is using ConsultII

If the you are moving the distributor to the limit of its travel, and the timing is still way out, the timing chain has moved a tooth or two on the cam sprocket. The way to find out? Set the engine to TDC at the CRANK, pull the valve cover and see where the cam sprocket marks are. And yes, the exhaust cam drives the distributor. Possibly this is why you have no boost and low vacuum. When in doulbt, check your FSM, You do have one don't you? All the cam timing marks are clearly laid out.

there you go, thanks! what he said:) takes about 30 min. to an hour to set the marks up again in time. crank to cams.
