I had the same problem. I just got a gauge cluster from the local junkyard for $40 and swapped out the tach between the two clusters. Took 20 minutes.

Broken tach usually means its really broken. I replace my gauge cluster...fixed mine @ 180k miles.

Tachs are for LOSERS haha but seriously i know the frustration. Ive searched and all i find is bunch of dead end threads. In my case ive gotten to the end of the road with my cluster and i believe my feed from my ecu is bad. :( Had a friend that wanted to check if mine would run his car because he wasnt getting spark. AFAIK the ecu might have gotten damaged during the process.

mines pretty bad too, every once and a while the needle will jsut smack the pin all the way past 9 grand. and then a lot of times ill be driving and it just sits about 500rpm higher then what im actually at. it doesnt really bother me, if i ever need to use a tach i can just look at my safcII.

Hey, you know you can just remove the individual tach. You don't have to use the whole gauge cluster. Personally, the idea of having the wrong mileage indicated would bother me...but some people just don't care as much.

yeah i didn;t know that but its already back in my car and i don't feel like taking back out lol maybe if i get some white face gauges maybe i will but its so nice having my tach working and i now realize that my tach is like 300rpms off from idle lol
