Yesterday I parked the car, pulled up on the hand brake and .... nothing! So I removed the console, jacked up the car, removed the rear wheels and inspected everything. Unfortunately I can't find anything wrong!
Does anyone know if this a simple replacement job, or do I have to take this to a dealer??? :(

Sounds like your e-brake cable borke or came off. There are little levers on the rear calipers that your cables attach to. On the other side, there is a bolt that runs paralell to the brake handle just underneath it (but back in there) with a nut that you can use to adjust the parking brake. I'm not sure how the routing goes underneath the car, but if all three ends are in there right, then there is a break in the middle, and you just need to replace the cable.
Why do my posts always end up so long?

Sounds like your cable snapped, but I can't be sure from your description. I'm guessing the cable from the parking brake lever to the balancer(where the 2 brake lines from the left and right side connect to the cable from the lever) snapped.
Is there any resistance when you pull the handle?

old thread but-
I have the same problem. Mine has some resistance [at times] to about 3-4 clicks. If I raise it any higher, the handle just slips and moves freely.
Im thinking maybe the cable did snap?
I only started having problems after having my rear brake pads replaced.

your probably low on brake fluid. You can top it off but I would inspect your pads. Might be time for a change.
