: 60hp shot of nos
sr20ser1997 02-26-2002, 07:01 PM hi everyone, i am new to the forum.. I am thinking of putting a 60hp shot of nos on my 97 ser.. is 60hp too much or is it ok.. do the sr's respond well to nos or should i save my money? right now all i have is a 91 intake cam and a cheap airfilter and adaptor and i hit 15.4 in 1/4mile. anyone have any guesstamies on what i might run with a 60hp shot and a placeracing cai? oh yeah im looking at the nitrous works kit..does anyone have any experience with this kit? thanks for all your input
ThomasSr20 02-26-2002, 08:11 PM First u gonna need to get a cat back exhaust and than fuel pressure regulator and you gonna need a new clutch cause it won't last very long.
I suggest u to get the Wet kit cause is alot saver, and remember to get a colder sparkplug.
Remember to check your sparkplug once a week to see what is the condition of it.
sr20ser1997 02-26-2002, 10:25 PM i am going to get the wet kit and according to nitrous works it will work with the stock fuel pump and pressure, i am replacing the clutch with an act and adding a cold air intake, i am not going to do the cat back exhaust just yet.. i like the element of surprise when someone pulls up behind a "stock" se-r with stock wheels and stock exhaust.. maybe after a while i will get the greddy sp. more inputs would definatly be appreciated.

Get a Greddy exhaust and chop off the tip and weld on a 2.5" tip. Then you'll get the performance advantage and the stock look. You can check out mine here (http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13804).
SERprise In WV 02-26-2002, 11:40 PM Well, I'm not so sure about two things Thomas said. If you get a wet kit, there is absolutely no need for a fuel pressure regulator. None. Nada.
Secondly...if you really want to tune nitrous correctly, look at one spark plug (or all four, if you've got the time) immediately after every use, and you'll really know what's going on inside your engine.
The longer you wait after a nitrous hit to pull a plug and check, the less info you'll be getting, due to regular NA operation putting carbon, etc. on the plug.
With a 60-shot, you can hit mid-14s easily. If you can drive and launch, then low-14s wouldn't be out of the question.
Do a search on this site for 'nitrous' or 'NOS' and you'll find a lot of useful info.

lol, how funny, thats exactly what I'm doing!
I got my NX wet kit on monday, and my a-pillar pod showed up yesterday from guagepods.com (looks great, matches interior perfect). I plan on doing a tune up over the next couple days, and hopefully I'll have it all setup by the end of this weekend. Still waiting on my bottle opener, msd window switch, and fuel pressure safety switch. But other than the bottle, the car is bone stock :)
I've been talking to one guy via email that swears I can run a 125shot on stock fuel pump, but he says its a little "fat" for the fogger, and that you've definatly gotta go direct port for anything bigger than that. He did say the stock clutch was only good for about a 75shot. I plan on running the 50 until I've got the cash to plunk down on a new clutch, at which time I'll up the shot to a 75. Then I'll probably drop the pump in, run a 100shot till it blows, and swap in a det.
gonna be fun, fun, fun! can't wait to start installing :)

I think you mean 'safe', and not 'save'.
And no, not really. With a wet setup at 60hp, your stock fuel pressure and stock fuel pump will work just dandy. If you raise the fuel pressure via adding a FPR, then you will also be changing the nitrous jetting as well. With a 60hp shot, increasing the fuel pressure does nothing more than change the jetting required on both sides (N and F) to get the job done.
Nitrous does not make the power: The fuel does.
Use the stock pump (as long as it isn't very old and/or in bad shape) and stock fuel pressure, and you'll be fine.

I think a more accurate statement would be: nitrous doesn't make more power, the oxygen in nitrous, combined with fuel, makes more power.
enjoyDride 02-27-2002, 01:30 PM Listen to Greg, the man knows what he is talking about. You won't need an aftermarket fuel pump unless your running anything bigger than a 75sht. The regulator won't do much. You can run 100 sht without it and you car will run fine. An aftermarket exhaust will help in the exhaust dept. And you will definatly need a stronger clutch...just don't get a race clutch stay with a street clutch...save you tranny;)

sr20ser1997 02-27-2002, 04:30 PM i didnt think i would need the fuel pump.. my fuel pump is the original 97 fuel pump with 52k miles on it.. I am sure it will do just fine.. after considering everything i decided to buy the place racing cai, unorthodox underdrive pulleys (all 4), 60shot wet kit, greddy sp catback exhaust, and ofcoarse a better clutch to hold all the mods.. I am hoping these mods will get me into the 13's..mids preferably but realisticly high 13's..does this sound right or does anyone think it will be slower/faster? i currently run a 15.4 with a cheap airfilter and adaptor and a 91 intake cam..
sr20ser1997 02-27-2002, 04:58 PM one more thing.. what type of plugs should i use with the 60shot and what kind of timing? should i stay with the factory reccommended platinum plugs? thanks again everyone
SERprise In WV 02-28-2002, 01:00 AM Lose the platinum plugs. Nitrous doesn't like the plats at all. Get some NGK BKR6 plugs, and gap them around .030-.035 (start small and gradually work your way bigger if there's no detonation).
As for timing, with a 60-shot (wet) you can *probably* get away with 17 degrees, believe it or not. I did so with a 50-shot. Your car *might* be a tad quicker at 15 degrees. You should not have to bring the timing down past 15, though.
My humble prediction: 14.15 @ 97-98mph (with a good launch), once you're all set up. Go quicker and prove me wrong. ;)
Good luck.

ThomasSr20 02-28-2002, 11:47 AM 6 is the factory plug, you have to get one step colder than the factory which is 7.
I'm sure about that cause i just brought a set of 4 from the factory
$11 dollar each NGK sparkplug
SERprise In WV 02-28-2002, 01:46 PM Thomas, you bought platinum plugs, it sounds like. The NGK BKR 6s are copper, and usually run about $2.00 per plug, probably even cheaper if you shop around.
Nitrous will work just fine with the BKR6s. Only if you step up to a 100-shot or beyond, you might want to look at the BKR7s.

ThomasSr20 02-28-2002, 10:02 PM Yeah i brought platinum NGK #7 plug from the dealership, cause i am running the 100shot JWT ECU program.
