New water pump- $48

Misc. hoses, belts, and fluid- $40

New jackstands and jack- $49

Bandages and gauze- $10

Money saved by not paying a mechanic- $300

Calling in sick for work to finish the job- PRICELESS

There's some things that money can buy, for everything else, there's stupidity.

I hope that none of you other people have to go through this. It was the biggest pain in the ass ever! I estimate just under 10 hours of labor. If your car has rust on it like my 11 yr old illinois car has, then your in for plenty of rusted things that don't move and just break. Next time, I'll be paying a mechanic. I still don't have a det yet....DAMNIT!!!

Sounds like he did a water pump job, which is a pain in the ARSE to do while the engine is still in the car.

Just get the DET, so that way you swap water pumps when the engine is still sitting on the palette! Took me about 20 minutes! (I hope you don't hate me for that comment.) :D

The entire time I was doing the thing, I was like "Why can't my DET be sitting here so I can just swap the whole damn engine." I will post some pics of the old water pump. I took it out and all of the bearings just flew out on the floor! This thing was messed up big time.

took me 4 hours to swap out the water pump in my old classic? I left the Powersteering cooler in and moved it out of the way. It was hard but not as hard as My Talon. U have to take the timing belt off to get tot he water pump.

Usually they'll start leaking, or at least thats been my experience with the two I've had go (both non-ser cars). Just make sure it _is_ the pump and not any nearby hoses. Some things are just easier in rwd cars; I did my ford I6 water pump in under an hour.

Yeah all the more reason why I am going to do mine before I swap her in my car. Pulleys look like they would be a major PITA if done while engine is in the car.

My car never leaked a drop of coolant until the day the pump seized. About a month ago, the car was making a very intermitent "whirring" noise under the hood. I couldn't understand where the hell it was coming from. I was also getting a rough idle every now and then. Then all of a sudden, it was like I had a blow off valve under the hood and that was followed by a bunch of steam. When I took the old pump off, it failed so bad that the blades dug into the block!

BAH!! I also am getting an intermittent whirring noise... and it idles high (~1100 rpm) when making that noise... Grrr... I was praying it wasn't my water pump...

How many miles did your car have on it when the water pump went?

I have yet to change a water pump but I'll be sure to make a mental note about it.

Thanks!
