Well after read serval posts from you all and not having the cash after buying my 97 SER, I went a head and got ghetto on her and made my own Short Shifter.
Now I got to say I'm a bt surprised at the outcome. I spent 19 dollars on a shift knob, and about 6 mins hacking away at the stock shifter. And I have to say I love it!
Yeah I know it's ghetto but anythoing beats that stock crap. Man for a while I thought I was driven a 18 wheeler.. that shit is super long... any how... with a flick of the wrist I can get em gears quick...
So thanks to those whom fessed up and said..

If all you did was cut off the top of the shifter then you did not shorten the throughs at all. All you have done is shorten the stick.

I have a friend who shortened the throw of his stock shifter by cutting about 2 inches of the top welding it to the bottom of the pivot point. It might be worthwhile if you want to get creative. Or just get the pacesetter for about $50.

Yeah I cut the top down pretty low, Id say 2 1/2 to 3 inches.
So yeah your right I shortened the shifter. Stil like it though.

Not true, the lever swings an arc from the pivot point. Just cutting the shifter on the knob end will indeed shorten the throws.
Think about how short the throws would be if he cut it so short that it was only sticking out 1".
Here's my ghetto setup. Cut 1" above the ball and moved the ball up 1/2". Total throw from 3rd to 4th is 3.75" Feels great
