Which Optima red top are you guys using for a stock mounting location? i did a search and the only part number i got was from a thread from 2001 and i think the numbers have changed. my battery really didn't like the cold this morning and i think it's time for a new one. thanks

dont think it will fit in the stock location. i had to remove my tray and just tie it down with a tie down

hmmm... alright then. it seems they only make 2 or 3 sizes in the red top and they are only 1/8 - 1/16 difference in any dimension from one another. should i just go with the smallest one?

I have a brand new Nissan battery tray, and my Red Top fit in it. Just barely, but it squeezed in there.

do you know which model you got?

the ones i see listed are:
model 34
model 34/78
model 75/35

i think i'm going to go with the 75/35, being that it's the smallest of the 3. but i'd like to make sure. plus the smaller one is $10 cheaper.

i'll look into that. anywhere in particular that you would recommend buying from? my only thing with a battery that small is i live in new england, not atlanta, and it gets really freakin cold in the winter time (now) how are they for cold cranking?

sorry for the double post, but where the hell did you find an orange top? did you buy it a while ago? i don't think they even make those any more. my buddy has one in his gti as well, but he bought it years ago.

can't say for sure but it is not a lead/acid battery. It is a lead battery.

This is my first winter with it. but mid 20's is the worst it gets overnight here.. so yeah, that certainly is a valid concern.

i think they did stop making the orange. i didn't see any signs of it on optima's website and my friend told me they don't make it anymore as well. what do you mean it's backwards? the positive and negative are switched? i guess i didn't know that.

I'm sure there is more places that sell the orange top battery, but those are some links above.

They no longer make the orange top. If you do find one and buy it, it's at least 2 years old. I have the red (orange) top and they just have the polarities reversed. It is now only in red/yellow/blue, but the red, you have an option for regular or reversed (used to be orange).

I guess that's the difference between the 34/78 and the 78/34, one used to be called the orange top but both are now red.

34R. That's what works. We have two of them for our racecar. You turn it around backwards. We put it on a "booster" to utilize the stock tie down, as the batt. is more squat than stock.

Or you could get a bungee cord to hold it down. ;)
