: Digital 6
fastredse-r 02-27-2002, 05:45 PM I ordered my new toy today the MSD dig 6 and I am very excited. Right now I have a MSD6a I don't know if there is really any performance difference but I like the fact that it has a rev-limiter and you can retard your ignition ( I was getting tired of loosening the distributor everytime I had to retard my timeing).
I would like to thank SERprise In WV on helping get this system cheaper than what I would have paid. Hopefully I should be getting it by no later than Saturday Maybe I can try it out if I go to the dragstrip.
I just thought my fellow SR20 enthusiasts would like to know. I am trying to get ahold of some pullies if anyone is selling there's I am interested?
Andrew 02-27-2002, 07:20 PM Could you share where you able to get it cheaply??:D
fastredse-r 02-27-2002, 09:42 PM www.summitracing.com
fastredse-r 02-27-2002, 09:43 PM www.summitracing.com for $279.95 not including shipping. I got mine $286.00 shipped to my door.
NX$paniard 02-27-2002, 10:13 PM yeah its pretty accurate...i like that it is digital instead of analog for our hi rev engines...i dont miss a spark!! be sure to drill holes in your distrib cap!!! *** the air inside of there ionizes and will crossfire since our cap is relatively smaller than a big v-8's. have fun buddy!!!

SERprise In WV 02-28-2002, 12:53 AM Wow, glad to see I was of some help.
$7 shipping to Hawaii is hillarious. I get billed the same amount for shipping by Summit, and they're one friggin' state over from me. Sheesh.
When install time comes, fastredse-r, give me a holler and I'll shoot you some digital pics of how to splice into your coil wires. Space is tight, but you can get it done. You will also want to wire in the retard wire to your arming switch, so that the timing retard is automatic. You'll no longer have to change the timing every time you want to use the nitrous, and I know what a hassle that is.
Good luck!
fastredse-r 02-28-2002, 03:13 AM You can count on me asking alot of questions cause I like things to be done right the first time around. What do you mean "drill holes on the distributor cap" why do I need to do it and where would I drill the hole or holes thanks for everyones input on this I will keep everyone posted. And if anybody know of someone who is selling there UR pulllies keep me in mind cause that is next on my list.

NX$paniard 02-28-2002, 12:12 PM it is wise to drill a few holes in your distributor cap because you will now have multiple spark discharge(MSD) not to mention a lot stronger spark. the air trapped inside of the cap will heat up faster and have no where to go, it will become ionized and can become a conductor from pin to pin, thus causing a crossfire...not to good, it'll sound like a sputter out your exhaust. by drilling these little holes, i did one on each side of the cap pins, you allow that ionizing air to get out of there before it has time to react to the continouus ly strong spark. even the v-8 guys do this and they have fairly large caps compared to us. i hope ive explained myself well. if not i can always try again!!! i think youll like the units performance its accurate!!!

fastredse-r 03-03-2002, 04:37 AM Thanks NX$paniard I will drill the holes on my cap I did not know that and all along I have not done that with my MSD6A.
Well everyone my digital6 came in the mail today I am so excited to put it on I will be installing it tomorrow. Hey
SERprise In WV I am ready for that diagram so install process can go alot smoother, also I have the tach adapter to I believe I am still going to need this right? I will let you all know how everything went and if ther is a difference with the baseling MSD6A.
SERprise In WV 03-03-2002, 12:07 PM Here's how the wires hooked up on my '93. Your '92 *probably* has the same color wiring, but I am not sure.
http://www.sr20de.org/images/gallery.php?op=view&cat=Sentra%20SE-R%20%28Classics%29&img=msd.jpg
Here's a quick overview:
*Cut the wires coming out of the connector that plugs into the bottom of the coil, about 1-inch away from the coil. Those two wires are green w/yellow stripe and black w/red stripe. Green is positive, black is negative.
*Use spade connectors (I used females on the coil side).
On the coil connector:
*MSD orange wire (male spade connector) to the coil green/yellow (female spade connector) is your positive connection.
*MSD black wire (male) to the coil black/red (female) is your negative connection.
On the other ends of the two wires you cut coming out of the coil:
*MSD red (the SMALL red wire) connects to the green/yellow.
*MSD white connects to the black/red.
Hookup all the other wiring (power, ground, etc.) and you're good to go. I did not need a tach adapter on my '93, by the way.
Good luck!
fastredse-r 03-03-2002, 03:46 PM Thank you very much it is almost the same as the MSD6A. As for the other wires can you tell me where those go thanks. I will be hooking it up later on today.

Greg:
Would these same instructions apply to a '96 SE-R, or do the wire colors change? TIA
SERprise In WV 03-03-2002, 05:38 PM Read the instructions that came with your D6, and you'll find out where the other wires go!
As for the '96 fitment, I have absolutely no idea. This works on my '93, and that's all I know. Sorry.

xDennis 03-03-2002, 06:28 PM fastredse-r, what does your car run in the 1/4 or 1/8, judging by your mods list it looks to be pretty fast ;)
fastredse-r 03-04-2002, 01:31 AM Thanks Greg. My best 1/4mi. time is 13.9 @ 98mph. For Hawaii that is a good time. If I was in California my time would be alot better.
fastredse-r 03-05-2002, 01:18 AM I need help Greg everything is hooked up and it looks very clean but the car won't start now. Was I suppose to cut the green closed loop. I have the cylinder select at "4" for four cylinder. I have my pink and wire hooked up to the microswitch. Does the timeing retard that quick before the nitrous goes on? As for my blue wire I am going to connect it where I turn my nitrous on (toggleswitch). Thanks I told you I would probably need your help thanks for helping me out.
fastredse-r 03-05-2002, 03:41 AM Well my car won't turn over. I did everything correct I troubleshooeted and nothing. I put my old ignition and samething it will crank but won't turn over. So I decided to go stock and same thing. Anyone have any ideas I checked my fuses and they are all good. Car was fine before I did this project.
NX$paniard 03-05-2002, 09:47 PM i thought the msd digital 6 was supposed to be set to '0' for four cylinders, i think '4' is for a 20* retard in ignition or for locking distributors....that may not be it ..but its worth a quick try....
sorry to hear your bad news

fastredse-r 03-06-2002, 12:19 AM I thought that too setting it to 0 but nothing if I can't figure this out I might have to take it to the stealership and have them diagnos it so come one everybody put your thinking caps on so maybe I can take care of this myself.
