: Diff between SE and SER
squirrelmaster 02-28-2002, 04:58 PM Hey guys, I've been reading around here a bit on occasion. I'll be looking for a 200sx to buy not long from now, and am wondering: what are the exact differences between a 200sx SE and an SER 'package'? I'm having trouble finding any 95-97 se-r's.
kjopi -sleeper- 02-28-2002, 05:01 PM there are quite a few differences, but the main one is the motor...the SE has the 1.6, and the se-r has the 2.0. if at all possible, don't get a SE. the se-r is harder to find, but will be worth the wait when you do. the se-r's also have power everything, and sunroofs. >:^D
metro_se-r 02-28-2002, 05:15 PM DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT get an Se. It will be a mistake you will regret.
squirrelmaster 02-28-2002, 05:22 PM dang those are hard to find...i was hoping what you said wasnt true but ahhHH!! .... wish me luck trying to find one:)
squirrelmaster 02-28-2002, 05:28 PM dang i just found this one!!...its in the dfw area too...if any one is interested

me, i gotta wait another few months
Mike sr20de 02-28-2002, 05:45 PM i live in Fort worth. that looks like a good deal, but i already have one. oh well
squirrelmaster 02-28-2002, 05:54 PM I don't mean to gnaw on the topic, but is there any difference between a SE (w/ power locks/windows/moonroof/etc) and an SE-R besides the engine being 1.6?
If I plan to do a GTiR engine swap in the future anyway, wouldn't it be wiser to spend less money getting a good condition SE with all the options from a much greater selection of cars AND for a cheaper price? Plus, the money saved can help go towards buying that DET engine. Am i overlooking something here?
metro_se-r 02-28-2002, 09:12 PM I know for a fact that suspension is different. There are also many other differences, but I can't remember what they are now. Maybe someone else knows.
Mike sr20de 02-28-2002, 09:30 PM don't forget brakes!
The cost will be much higher going from a se to a DET. Especially a GTi-R. You should bite the bullet and buy a se-r. You could go to http://www.sentra.net, or http://www.se-r.net and get all the info on the specified models

Not to discourage you from doing that swap...but its a whole lot less headache going to a bluebird instead....most ppl ive talked to say they wish they had done the bluebird instead of the gti-r...now dont get me wrong there are a few out there that are glad they did the gti-r but the majority dont....also, the parts sharing between the bluebird and us spec sr20 is ten fold the parts sharing of the gti-r and the us spec one. IE. hardly any parts are shared between the gti-r and us sr20...
me personally i plan on having a bluebird installed in some car someday what that may be i dont know yet
food for thought
squirrelmaster 03-01-2002, 12:17 AM thanks for the replies and advice
(esp the warnings about the bluebird/gtir)
james vick 03-01-2002, 12:25 AM Are you in the dallas area? If so call me at the shop 972-399-0499 it's called Boostfactor. Mike call me if you get time tommorow i think i got a deal for ya. :)
spdracerUT 03-01-2002, 05:27 PM Well..... It's easier to do a BB swap into and SE-R because they already share a lot of the same components. As far as the brakes, suspension, and body work... well, I've totally swapped out the front brakes all suspension all around so it wouldn't have mattered. From what I hear though... it's a major pain in the ass to go from a 1.6L to DET because you have to get the SR water pump, tranny, wiring harness...etc. etc.

rofl :D
ser20de 03-02-2002, 11:38 AM ser has better suspension, side skirts, engine, wheels and spoiler.. white gages etc etc
Nah, it's all good, not everyone is as insane as me ;).
Anyway the SE and SE-R have the same suspension with the exception of the front sway bar. They both have power everything, although the spoiler and sunroof were an option package. 95-97 Se's and SE-R's share the same exhaust as well. But as stated, the SE-R is a better platform to begin with, if your serious about the swap and can save at least $1,000 on the car I would buy a 1.6 and do the swap. But as stated it will require more parts.
ser_lover 03-03-2002, 02:18 PM To find a se-r got o www.autotrader.com or where I found mine was www.se-r.net click classifieds and look for a se-r.
domiguy 03-03-2002, 07:23 PM hey Wes was the one that told me I should get an SE-R... and I'm really happy with mine
