: BB w/T28 Vs GTi-R

I've been thinking about boosting for a while now. And I've come to deciding that I'd like to do a swap vs kit. So now my question is, which would you prefer the BB with T28, or the GTi-R? I plan on getting 3" exhaust, and FMIC as with both. So with that being said. I've read of some problems with the GTi-R. Are the parts not interchangeable like the BB? I was planning on swapping over my cams (if possible) and perhaps buying the trick intake manifold that one of the guys online is making. Realistically I'm shooting for 12's and daily driven reliability. I'm sure eventually I'd like to upgrade even more to a Fmax style kit but I think for now a properly tuned T28 setup would hold me over.

***The water pumps are different.

***The GTi-R cams are already a lot better than the stock Bluebire/high port SR20DE cams. If yo want S3's, JWT makes a set specifically for the GTi-R's solid lifters.

***A GTi-R or Bluebird can get you there with a T28.

JUN, Toda and others also make cams for solid lifters.

Is there any difference between making a swap of a Gti-R and a BB engine ?

And what are the difference between the two engine apart the water pump ?

I think the GTi-R motor has stronger rods too. But the biggest difference is the intake manifold on the GTi-R which has 4 individual throttle bodies. This makes for better throttle response. I don't know how this compares in power to a custom intake manifold which can be tuned for high end power, BUT, I bet you'd get a lot better throttle response and probably drivability.

Why is it then, that most people shy away from a GTi-R swap then? I've heard mention that parts are hard to get for the motors. Personally I'd rather (from what I know) just go with the GTi-R swap as opposed to swapping out the T25 for the T28.

The parts are not that hard to find. SR20 Development can get anything you need.

All I have to say is this: Don't rev to 10,000 RPM by missing a gear and break a rocker arm. My frined did this with his GTi-R and he had to wait a few weeks to get a new rocker arm and2 new shims.

:D
Ok so here's my list
1: Get a GTi-R motor
2: Con Jay into swapping it
3: Don't Miss shift and rev to 10,000rpms and break a rocker arm.
j/k
Seriously though. Is there some black cloud that comes with a GTi-R motor? A lot of people that I have spoken with have just said to go with the BB route. But why not spend the extra money and get the benefits from the GTi-R?

If I have The Gti-R at the same price as the BB, should I do a Gti-R swap??

what do I have to take in consideration ?

How can we get informed on the products that sr20development offers? I've surfed on their site, but there's nothing we can see.

Let's just say that the BB DET is like the regular SR20DE, but with lower compression and piston coolers. The GTiR is sort of a different kind of beast, it has a lot more goodies like sodium filled valves, solid lifters, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head. It also has lower compression (8.3:1) than the BB DET (8.5:1).

And yes, call SR20 Development.

The BB DET also has the 8mm Sodium filled valves. The head on the GTiR is completely differnt. The the head design is what lowers the compression to 8.3:1. It does have sturdier rods, thicker rod and main bearings, stronger main bolts, and I thought a higher capapcity oil pump. Just my $.02.

Thank you :)

Another little question now, Does these parts are available in canada if something break ??

This may be a little off topic from Matt's questions, but are the piston coolers a necessity? I currently have a Primera engine, and want to boost it. Someone fill me in. Oh, and I also remember someone mentioning that the Primera has sodium filled valves...if it does, what is the result of this, how is it better?

Thanks
