Good evening all,

I am in the process of replacing all the rod bearings on my 96 SR20 in my b14 SE-R. It developed a rod knock between 2800-3200 RPM's with 82,000 miles on the motor. The parts should be in, in the next several days, to complete the job in my garage.

Currently I have just dropped the Oil Pan and I have been working from the bottom end of the motor with it still in the car. I have been told that it is a good possibility that when I am all done, that the knock could be present still, and coming from any of my Wrist Pins. To replace these, I will need to pull the head and pull the pistons from the top. Should I just do it any way?

Suggestions or comments on what I should do? Should I just replace the rod bearings and play it by year, and if the knock persist, then pull the head and replace the wristpins?

I appreciate any suggestion or comments. :D

Told by whom? Someone with any SR20 experience? I did only the rod bearings in my white car and plan on doing the same for my black car soon (light knock in that one too). I have *never* heard of SR20 rod knock being caused by wrist pins and not rod bearings. If someone else has had bad wrist pins, please post... I would be very surprised to hear it though. Just replace your rod bearings, and I bet that will fix your problem... just make sure the crank is not scored and the bearings are correcly sized.

It was a V8 Motorhead that I tool around with. He mentioned it today, I figured I would post it and see what happens. He has no SR20 Exp. outside of helping me with my Clutch / Light Weight Flywheel install.

I felt the same way you did when he said that. Thanks for the reply to my post. I matched all the SR20 info from the Rods and the Bottom of the block and the FSM.

All the parts are from Courtesy Nissan.
