Ok, from reading about others spun bearings, that sound like it is my problem too. Nasty knock/rattle at 2700-4000rpm, and loss of power, little bit of white smoke out the back. But I have a few ?'s. Exactly where is this "spun" bearing located? What exactly happens when I "spin" a bearing? What happens if I keep driving on it? Oh yeah, who has a engine REALLY cheap?
Thanks...

from what i know, the bearings aren't THAT difficult to replace, the hard part is actually finding the right ones, I believe there are 3 different types. Install involved dropping cross-member, oil pan etc. From beneath! Thats the extent of my knowledge on spun bearings....hope it helps.

People usually "spin" the bearings on the crank I think, or maybe it was the connecting rods. Anywayz, to replace those, first, you have to support the engine because you have to take off the crossmember. Then you gotta drop the oil pans, and I think that'll give you access to the bearings.
As for what physically happens, well, the bearings are journal bearings which are basically just metal sleeves. They require a film of oil between then and whatever is spinning and I'm pretty sure this is called hydrodynamic lubrication. If everything is right, the bearing and crank will never touch because of the layer of oil between them. Not enough oil/pressure then the bearing and crank will touch, scratch each other up, mess up their surfaces and tolerances, and uh, basically, the bearing won't work too well anymore. Once that happens, contact will happen more often until you end up with a rod through your block or something.

Don't drive your car anymore, it happen cause of low oil pressure or maybe overheated it.
It could get wrost if u keep driving it.
I suggest u to get another engline, JDM primera is like $500
Bluebird is like $1600 to $2000 depends on the year and millege.
Good luck!!!

Call either SR20Development or Soko. They both have engine less than $400 I think. Join SERCA and get an additional discount from SR20Development :-)
It's probably about the same amount of work to swap the motor out as it is to change the bearings, you just swap the motor and you'll end up with a fresher motor when you're done.
