I am tired of relying on the oil pressure idiot light so i bought an autometer electric oil pressure guage.. when i connect the pressure sender from the autometer guage am i going to have to disconnect the stock pressure switch? how do i go about disconnecting it? just unplud it completely? will this make the oil light stay on or even throw an engine code? thanks for all the help you can give me

You could just get a T-fitting and hook up both.

Hey man,

You hvae 2 options here:

1. unscrew the stock oil pressure sending unit and leave the plug disconnected. This will not cause a MIL light, as it only is used for the gauge in the instrument cluster. Then, screw in the Autometer sending into the hole where the old unit was.

Caution: The threads on the block are 1/8" BSPT, whereas the threads on the Autometer unit are 1/8" NPT. The NPT threads will mess up the BSPT threads if you try to screw the Autometer unit in. What you need is a BSPT to NPT adapter. It has male BSPT threads that go into the block and female NPT threads to accept the Autometer unit.

I have one of these from Z10 Engineering that I did not use. I paid $12 plus shipping for it. If you want it, you can have it for $10.

3. Use a "T" to accept both the Autometer unit and the stock sending unit.

Caution: *Do not* screw the Tee right into the block. This places too much weight far away from the block and the fitting will evenutally crack, resulting in a major oil leak and needing a new engine.

You will want to screw in the above mentioned adaptor into the block. From there, attach about 12 inches of 1/8" Nylon tubing. Place the Tee at the end of the section of Nylon tubing. Mount the Tee to the firewall. Essentially, you are remote mounting the Tee. This method does not cause stress on the Tee at the block and it will never crack open.

If you need the adaptor or you would like me to install the gauge for you, e-mail me at jwhitely2000@yahoo.com. I live in Tampa as well.

Good luck,

i got the electric oil pressure gauge hooked up today.. it seems to work ok except when i am at idle the pressure drops below 25psi... when i get into the throttle a little bit it jumps back up to around 50psi.. is this normal to run that low of oil pressure at idle or could it just be the gauge ?

It's normal at idle.
