: To those with the HKS SSQV BOV...
ItsTurbo 12-18-2005, 12:42 AM What kind of sound does the blow off valve make? Reason I'm asking, I just sold me Blitz DD today to a friend with a SR/240 and I'm wanting to buy another BOV.
One of the local guys with the HKS on his DE-T 200sx makes a "choo choo choo" sound, while another friend I have with a AWD Eclipse kinda makes a high pitched short whistle.
If anyone can account for which is actually sounds like, let me know...
Thanks!

are you sure hes not a train conducter?
i have a friend with the HKS SSQ, its a pretty loud blow off valve, cant really explain what it sounds like online but it sounds good.

And I wondered why his car was so loud! it's a freakin train!
seriously though, it doesn't sound like any of the BOV's on the website at all. It's kind of like a hooting sound almost. I notice that a lot of single turbo Supra/IS300 BOV's sound this way.
His HKS makes the noise, but I also have a friend that drives a turbo IS300 and he has the Blitz DD and it made the same hooting noise. Neither sounds like the BOV clips on the website.
Kinda sounds like " hooo hooo hooo hooo" or something, maybe I should just record myself making the noise with my mouth and upload it haha
gun_metalz 12-18-2005, 04:40 AM actually it sounds like both of the noises you have heard....if you are not spooling hard then it will make the choo choo sound, but if you are boosting then you will hear the high pitch wistle....it also depends on the size of turbo you are using also....
your friend has a big turbo?
and also if it is re routed then it will make the choo choo sound.....
Froyd79 12-18-2005, 07:11 AM On my eclipse it used to whistle until I recirced it and had to take the fitting out. I can barely hear it anymore. But I cant describe it! Just a whoosh like a dumping of air. Sounds totally different on my buddys FD than it does on my car. I would give it a thumbs up as far as its actual ability though!
Psst! 12-18-2005, 12:44 PM Yeah.. I have the HKS SSQV on my 98 SE-R. When I first hooked up the bov, the hose I used wasn't a good vaccum source, which made compressor surge (choppy air noise).. I hooked it up to a good vaccum line and it makes the high pitched noise of air rushing out. At low boost it makes a shutter/whistle noise..(still pretty cool).. But on a quiet night driving around, I can hear the bov echoing off buildings probably 100+ yards away.. lol... It's pretty loud. (thats on 10.5 to 11 pounds of boost)

HkSBlueBird4u 12-18-2005, 01:35 PM the guy making high pitched whistle has it on correctley an safe.. the other shithead with the whoosh whoosh whoosh is backspinning his turbo which does sound fukin baad but also shortens life on turbo
HkSBlueBird4u 12-18-2005, 01:37 PM Yo If Anyone Of You Has Your Bov Backspinning Your Turbo Regulate It A Bit.. Lil Softer So It Doesnt Need That Much Pressure To Open. Dont Go Over Board.. But Get Rid Of Whoosh Whoosh Whoosh Notice.. It Does Sound Good But.. Again Note It Will End The Life Of Your Turbo.

Not to start an argumant but this has been discussed largly aver at freshalloy and its a matter of oppinion. Alot of guys DO NOT even run a BOV and their turbos have lasted long periods of time with no problems.
Again. Not to start an argument, but does anyone really know for sure? Not really. Its all he said she said. If you can show proof of this statement, then thats a diffrent matter.
I used a BOV and will always because I believe it will keep the longevity, BUT I am merely stating that it cant be proven and you made it sound like what you said was the end all.
HkSBlueBird4u 12-18-2005, 11:12 PM agree to diagree its cool man..
no beef needed over here... just stating what ive read and been told by many.
