: Emissions Test Results With My JGY DET!
ProjectSE-R 03-01-2002, 02:48 PM Get this gang. Just had my 97 DET engine installed by Jason Garrett Young 2 weeks ago and I had to run an emissions test today. With no rear O2 working and no EGR I thought I was gonna get screwed on this thing.
I get the paper back after all the country folk were looking at the engine and it reads out of 220 PPM allowed when the car is at load, I scored an 8. At idle, out of 220 PPM allowed to pass I scored a 17! Now you tell me whats wrong with that picture?!?!?!?! Either Jason gets EXRTEMELY WELL KEPT engines and has an EXPERT knowledge of installation or the entire testing centers' machinery is malfunctioning! I love it, I didnt have to drive 2 hours to register it out of town at my mothers either!! WOOHOO!!

david 03-01-2002, 04:24 PM properlly running turbos usually output much lower emissions than non turbo cars at idle. Even when I had my Conquest which was 10 years old that was the case.

They most certainly did didnt they!!! That was a frigin SWEET game! Man, too bad we arent ranked for shit though, you guys were 4th in the nation, I doubt you will drop too much, maybe 1..2 at most! ;)

Rockwood 03-02-2002, 01:44 AM i dont know, Cali is pretty damned bad. i dont see a MARB (md Air resources board?) but i do see a CARB.
no EGR isnt gonna affect HC, or CO. it effects your NOx readings, my EGR wasnt working properly, and it put our 1500 ppm for NOx, when the max was 1100. oops. retried with mega retarded timing and plugged in an empty vaccim hose, and voila! 700 NOx ppm.
also, the rear O2 sensor is useless, mine was non-op when i smogged it, and it passed just fine. i just bridged the MIL light to the oil light so it would appear to function properly.
jbanach77 03-03-2002, 03:20 PM you have something on the car besides what came with it from the factory and md inspector with fail you. even if it passes the test, you have to have all 100% oe patrs on it.

Rockwood 03-03-2002, 03:31 PM same here, hence CARB. you dont need to have all OE parts on it. otherwise, why are most parts just 49 state legal, as opposed to 50 state legal. all those 50 state legal parts, coincidentally, have a CARB OE #.
also, we are running reformulated gas here, and 91 is the highest octane available.

I prolley won't have to get checked for about 2 years but just checkin since I'm a KY hill billy too!!!!!
We'll have to meet up when my SE's done - I yanked the motor friday night - waiting on some gaskets to drop in the new motor!!!!

Nah, the whole VET place jsut starred at my engine bay like, "WTF is that", then they handed me my paper and said congrats, you passed, yadda, yadda. I told the lady after I got the paper, " You know whats funny?" what she said, " This engine is from Japan!" I squeaked the tires a bit and let the boost build up on my way out! HAHA! No visuals here in Louisville, I dont think there are any at all in KY.

I've had like 3 of my cars and a ton of my uncles trucks tested and they all did visuals.... We had to put all the smog stuff back on my uncle's delivery trucks lol...
Thats cool though - they may have cracked down here hehehe the place I take my cars got busted a month or so ago....
