: 16 and 20VE crankseat ?
Wondering anyone know whether
16VE crank and 20VE crank seat is same ?
the one holding the crank shaft.
pic is below
I am doing ia SR16VE conversion but dunno what the crankshaft cannot turn when i put in this seat
do the bearing clearance is a issue ?
Thank

Sabre 200 Gxi 12-19-2005, 02:19 AM You fitting a 2.0 crank to a SR16VE?
yes
Fitting a SR20VE crank on a 16VE
as well 20VE rod and Piston
OnyxEros 12-19-2005, 08:47 AM Yes they are the same
I just did a test fit with a gtir crank and it spins freely.
Make sure you have your main journals positioned in the correct direction
Emm i putting a SR20VE Crank on SR16VE block
all fit nicely
the crankseat is from SR20VE
but when we put the 20VE crankseat on the 16VE, the crank cannot spin
OnyxEros 12-19-2005, 02:46 PM put in the 16ve crank seat
The 20ve shouldn't fit and you could be destroying the block trying to make it fit!!!
inktdevil 12-19-2005, 02:58 PM they're called bearing caps, and the 20ve cap won't work with your block. did you bother measuring bearing clearances???
that might be important... seeing as you're trying to use the wrong caps you should probably remeasure!
ok.. got the point
not it not bother measure
it just pliminary stage only
we just try to bolt on everything and see it move or not only
so any SR16VE bearing cap from other SR16VE block will fit on it ?
Thank
OnyxEros 12-19-2005, 08:59 PM No
bearing caps are specific to the block they came in
inktdevil 12-19-2005, 10:22 PM hence telling him to measure the bearing clearances....
we just try to bolt on everything and see it move or not only
even if you are just putting everything together to see if it fits, you still need to measure the bearing clearances and install bearings... unless you want to wreck both the crank and the block.
don't people bother to search anymore???????:squint:

opss
this mean i need to get back the original bearing caps for 16VE block ?
any other solution for this if i cannot found the back the original bearing cap for this block ?
mean if the crank is tight i need to use smaller clearance
mean change the main bearing to thinner
mean higher grade ?
Thank
inktdevil 12-19-2005, 10:29 PM do yourself a favor... get a FSM and then follow directions.
better yet, S E A R C H!!!
-n-
er anyone have the VE FSM ?
i dont have it
i just want to know whether the SR20VE bearing cap is same or not same only with 16VE
OnyxEros 12-19-2005, 10:42 PM Here is a much more polite answer
you need to find the journals that came with the block. If you don't you are going to spend a lot of time and money trying to get this to work and your motor could still potentially fail
here is what is wrong with your block right now, regardless of the crank and clearance:
you have forced journals into a block that were never supposed to fit together. The metal around the journal shoulders and the main webbing is now warped. Especially if you torqued the journals down to specs. You need to inspect your block carefully for sharp edges and metal shavings. you also need to look for any grooves the incorrect journals could have cut into the block.
Only after that can you start to worry about clearances. if you messed up your block the clearances won't mean a damn because as the motor is spinning the journals aren't seated properly.
That BLOCK is specific to only 1 set of Journals. Nothing else equals and nothing else is a substitute. your only mission right now is to find the original journals
opss..
high change mean i need to get a new block
the fastest way
looking for 16VE block now
anyone interested for 16VE gearbox and 16VE head ?
thank man..
very helpful on this
Bjorn 12-20-2005, 12:45 PM have you asked a machine shop if they could align bore the crank mains? should be cheaper than a new block
have you asked a machine shop if they could align bore the crank mains? should be cheaper than a new block
i was just going to suggest this if the original caps are totally gone.
just a line bore and then some undersized bearings.
em i think getting a new block is more cheaper than redo the block
some risk is there already
thank for the information
