The question is up there. I have a BB DET and I've heard about quite a few people who have spun bearings. This gets me worried.

Conventional widsom is to replace them before you swap in a DET since it is cheap, easy while the engine is out, and could save you a lot of money if the history of the motor was questionable. They don't all go but you sure feel stupid if they do when you could have prevented it so easily. If you have had your DET in for a while and they haven't started knocking though, chances are you don't have to worry about it, as long as you keep an eye on the oil level.

BTW, I am 2 for 2 on my DEs as far as this issue goes.. of course I thought the second one had a knock when I bought it... hey, it was cheap :). Gotta do that bearing change soon.

Thanks for the info. I've put 25,000 miles on my DET since last year and there have been no internal problems so I guess I shouldn't have to worry?? Knock on wood.

You sound like you're in good shape. When I got my BB DET, it spun a bearing within a couple days.

You know, the more I read up about the DET's I realize how much I simply didn't know when I put mine in. I realize that I must have been very lucky to get an engine like I did. Although I have had no major problems and I love my setup I would have done a few things different just as a precaution. Thanks guys for the info.

Do the DE bearings are the same that on the DET? (gtir or BB)

Thanks for reply guys.

Yes the USDM SR20DE crank is the same as the JDM and the bearings (Connecting Rod and Main Journal) are the same as the JDM SR20DET's 8:5:1 & 8:3:1.

I have a USDM DE with a spun bearing. 4/5 main bearings that I've looked at in this motor are pretty worn, not spun though. Don't you think that if a connecting rod was knocking around that it would affect the other bearings as well? I know this motor that I have was not well taken care of so that may be it, but maybe it was more of the rod knock that did it? Opinions?

I plopped in a DET in just over a month ago, didn't change the bearings and the engine runs fine. I even melted a spark plug (oops), but the engine still is happy (except that it really needs that FMIC kit!).

However, I think the big difference from my DET than others is that mine came from a manual transmission. It was very clean and doesn't have the sludging problem that auto SR20s seem to have sometimes.

If you want the piece of mind, change them.

wouldnt that be a quite expensive operation though? i mean theyd have to get into the engine. and for me, id have to have it shipped there, then get it shipped to my school (auto shop doin installation), so its extra shipping costs too. but still how much you think a shop would charge for this?? and the bearings cost what...50 bucks??

I called Nissan few weeks ago, 40$ for all four bearings, and that's canadian dollars!

I went to my Nissan dealer last friday and I asked for sr20de bearings. They said there were 56 different bearings for this engine and that I would have to bring the one on my engine (DET) to get the right ones.

Can anybody give me the part number of it and if it's the same for all engines?
