: Getting Sponsors
xDennis 03-03-2002, 12:08 AM how do people get sponsors? Is it possible just to goto a local store with like a resume of your racing or something and tell them benifits of them sponsering you for both you and them? and ask for some cash? or how do you sponsored people do it?
SE-Rican 03-03-2002, 12:21 AM It is very hard to get a sponsor! You could just ask around and see what happens!
I belive this post belongs in the off topic forum;)

DITTO!!!
but yeah...it will take a lot more than just going to a store and asking for money...I mean, who in their right mind will just give you money to hook up your car?!
andris 03-03-2002, 12:31 AM nobody will sponsor you to drive around in your car. If you can demonstrate that you will be racing in sanctioned motorsports, and present yourself in a professional manner, you may get something. VERY few places will give you actual money. Most places will just sponsor you for something they make. Cash sponsorship is not very common outside of arenas like pro import drag racing. Presentation is pretty important for stuff like this. I have assembled a detailed info packet about my car, the racing i do/will be doing and planned mods, etc., race schedules, sponsor logo placement, benefits, photos, etc.. and it has been resonably successful. You really shouldn't expect anything however if you aren't actually getting out and competing. getting sponsorship is worth the effort, but not very easy.

SERprise In WV 03-03-2002, 12:50 AM I am lucky in that I own a business (not automotive related), and can make some (not a lot) of cash appear for the car. My thinking is…if my company's logo is more visible on my car, then my business does better, which means I personally will do better.
So, I'm only helping myself.
Now then...go take a look at Louis Anaya's (APEXSER on this Forum) website: He has a sponsorship area, with a downloadable .pdf packet on him, his car, and his plans. Very nice. And, it has worked.
Sponsorship is basically advertising. Folks who buy advertising like two words: Exposure and Demographics. Show them how many people will see your car at an event (exposures) and who these people are and where they live (demographics). That tells the sponsor a lot about whether your car is attractive or not. Your target market needs to match up with theirs. You can get these numbers from *some* sanctioning bodies, but not all of them. I have gotten some simply by requesting them by email.
Good luck!
nigbot4000 03-03-2002, 06:39 AM OK, I am drunk right now and I know it is not very business like to be drunk and try to work, but hey I am also a college student also and it is mardi gras. Anyways, I think I am going to try to help out autocrossers by either giving away magnetic decals or offereing a really good discount. I think it will depend on size. I was talking to Gerg earlier and he showed me a site that wantd $55 for magnetic numbers. That is crazy, I would not even charge near that without a discount.
Anyways, if you are willing to run some Stickercastle decals during races I will cut you a deal.
I am going to throw up now. Everyone have a good night and morning. I should be up around 2pm making decals.

dont worry, ive said some crazy things when i was under the influence as well ;)
nigbot4000 03-05-2002, 03:41 AM Think about it more. I am pretty sure I am going to do some kind of sponsoring. I will give 1 sponsor per zip code and every one will be given magnetic decals that say Stickercastle.com with magnetic decals written under it. For every magnetic decal order I get I will give you 25% of the sales. So you will then have a reason to run them.
This has pretty much been my thing lately. I offer businesses 25% commissions for the right to make and sell thier decals on my site. Since it takes me little time to set up the order forms my cost is pretty much nothing. Do it is up to them how much money they/I make. The more work they put in the better it is for me and them. Gives them insentive. I think it would work well for you guys too. If you elect to not run the decals, I am not really going to be at a loss. If you do,we both end up in good shape.
I am just happy the board is up. :D
