Ok, I did not see this coming, but this thread and the post of the AD has now forced me to tell my SE-R story.

Back in 1998 I was working at The Sports Authority. I was 18 years old, this was my second steady job. Usually I did the register or customer service, but once in a while they stuck me to answer the phone and monitor the fitting rooms. Whenever this happend I was usually bored out of my mind, so I just read magazines. One day, I stubbled upon this ad in God knows what magazine. My first impression.......ewwwww, I didn't like the front faschia and the headlights. But the more I looked at the ad, the more I admired the car. The fog lights were cool, the rims were awesome, and the body lines just grew more and more on me. I showed the ad to a few of the people I worked with, and asked them what they thought. To be honest, I don't even remember their replies.
A few months later, I was in a public library. I went through the Motor Trend stack and found the August issue of 1997. They had a "Gen-X -files" test of the SE-R, Civic EX, Tiburon, Escort ZX2, Mirage, Neon Highline and Paseo. Of course the Se-R was rated the highest.
I ventured to the Nissan dealer in my 91 cavalier and picked up a brochure. That just made me fall in love with the car. But of course I had no money to buy one, so I just had to wait.
In February of 99 I made a decision to finance a used Se-R, so the search for my car began. Originally I wanted a 95 because I didn't want to spend more then $10,000, but I just couldn't find anything. Finding a 200SX in the ads was hard enough, but the Se-R.....forget it, especially in a good color (too many teals). Then two months later, I finally found one in the "too late to list" pages. I was excited as heck, but there was one problem. It was a 97 super black, it was fully loaded and overloaded, had only 19K miles and the guy wanted $12,500 for it. I didn't think my father would agree to co-sign a loan on that big of an amount. But I just couldn't resist, a perfect opportunity presented itself and I had to take it.
Finally, I talked my father into it. By the time we got down to the guy's place to look at the car he already had seven people inquire about it. My father test drove it (i didn't know how to drive stick at the time) while I played around with the 3-disc changer. Right after that, I didn't even want to bother talking the guy down on the price, I just wanted to leave the deposit so he wouldn't sell the car to someone else while I got the loan approved. He agreed, as long as someone would loan me the money, the car was mine.
Two weeks later my father drove the car home, while I followed behind him (and at times speeding ahead of him in my cavalier just so I could admire the car's beauty).
So after searching for the car for over 2 months I finally got one. The guys who sold me the car also gave me the 97 brochure and the original sticker. Turns out the car was from a Virginia dealership because it was the closest one he could find with ABS and 3-disc changer, and he had it transported to a dealership in PA where he bought it. He also had them put in a center arm rest, woodgrain dash and splash guards. Total sticker price: $19,280. I asked him why he was selling it if he went through all that trouble to get it, and he told me that he absolutely loved the car but had no choice. He worked for Hertz and always had free rental cars so he didn't want to pay the insurance on the Se-R. His wife didn't drive stick and they needed the money because they were starting a family. All in all, it was basically fate that the car ended up in my hands.
I still have both the 97 and the 98 brochures along with the window price sticker and the AD in this thread that started the Se-R craze for me. I also have 2 more years of payments left, but I'm not worried. I love the car so much I will never sell it, no matter what.

hey i just have to share my story now because the other dude shared his...

it started when a friend of mine (97_Black_Ser) bought his car, and i use to cruise the local strip with him, and remember numerous kills he had in it. Then i drove a classic in the area and i was hooked. I had to get one. I looked and looked forever. And i was even tempted to settle for an SE(man whata mistake that woulda been). Anyways i wanted cloud white and i finally found one. I had about 3k to my name (18 year old college student i mean come on gimme some credit;) ) it had 90,000 miles on it and was in MINT condition with 3 exceptions (1 ding drivers side, 1 ding behind the passenger door, and drivers side carpet ripped). I didnt know how to drive stick so i brought a friend down and he test drove it, everything checked out and i put a deposit down. Loan got approved and i paid the guy, and drove it home(not the smoothist trips mind you, beginner at stick) but she was mine from then on. ($5800) not bad if you ask me. I still have a year and a half on the loan and would never change my decision, i love my SE-R to death.

MY SIG PIC IS THE SE-R IN THE PREVIOUS OWNERS DRIVEWAY:)

Well these stories sound great. Shit it sounds like you guys love your cars as much as I do! I can get into stories but I will be writing a novel. Heres the short version, had a black 96 that I drove everywhere because I loved to drive it. I sold the car to a friend in town for the same amount I paid for my blue one. I love these cars so much that I flew out to wisconsin from connecticut with a friend for the blue car and drove it back 1000 miles. I loved the drive even though there were sprint springs on the car. Bouncy aint the word. But I love se-r's, I have driven se-r's for 3 years now! People say they like to switch cars when they buy a new one, if anything happened to my car I would have to go out and buy another one. I would never change the car I drive. I will switch motors before I sell that thing. It will have 500k on it in my garage with its 4th motor in it before I sell it. Good luck with your rides guys.

i think deep crystal blue is the nicest color for the b14. i had a chance to buy one, but it was a slushomatic. i then saw a deep crystal blue sentra se for sale the day after i bout my red one. i was pissed!!! it's just funny how the civic guys say that nissan copied that color from the civic si.

The limited edition Autumn Sunburst ('97 only, I think) was my favorite color. I drove one for a week, and most people didn't like the color though. What is weird is that I don't normally like anything but black/red/white.

Now I own a Super black Gray car. :D

it's really rare. i see more purple barney colored sentras. when i sold nissan's we only had one deep crystal blue 200sx for the 1998 lineup. it's even more rare when it came out in the 1999 sentra se. if anybody can find me a deep crystal blue 1999 sentra se for sale, i will reward you. i had and easy time finding the g-spot when i was 16 and messing around in high school. i have small hands.

I would have to say the blue mica (impreza rally car colour) and the audi blue (I don't know what the exact colour name is) are the sharpest looking blue car colours I've seen so far.

Hey MaddBurner, Im in Brampton too, You should have been at the meet last friday at Kartways!. I know of one 99SEL Deep Crystal Blue, its mint but has 98K!, Not for sale though, but if it ever goes up for sale i will tell you 99SENTRASER. Anyone have any idea of the numbers of these cars sold in Canada (The 98s) I have looked at numerous 95s, none in the condition I want. So I am now forced into looking at 98s since these things were missing in canada for 96,97.

I sent you a PM about a 200SX over at the Dermac dealership if your still looking for one. I don't know if it was an SE-R or SE, but its worth checking out if your still in the market.
