: Help with clutch decisions

I'm starting to piece together the necessary parts for when I do my engine swap and I was going to order a new clutch. I plan on pushing between 200-240 whp. I was going to go with the ACT NX9- XT00, but I've heard about breaking the clutch lever/cable because of the larger pressure plate. I don't want to go with the HD00 because it only holds 241lbs/tq and I don't want to be going through clutches if I ever get more power. I was thinking about the HDR6, but I don't know how streetable a 6 puck is. I need something streetable. Can any of you with experience help me decide? Please provide any info about longevity/harshness or anything else I should know. Thanks in advance.

P.S. If any of you are in illinois and have an upgraded clutch, pm me and maybe you could give me a demo.

You can reinforce the clutch lever. There is someone on the board that the lever has held up for 1 1/2 yrs.

Look into Clutch Masters. They are supposed to be coming out with a multidisc clutch soon. Two discs, and with flywheel, pressure plate, whole assembly supposed to wiegh around 14lbs!!!! I shit you not! Can you say throttle response? Like right now... 14lbs is not bad for a just a fly wheel! Anyway, I read about it in SCC, and maybe GRM, cant remember.

With 2 disks, it seems that there would be a greater chance of breaking something.

I like the ACT 6-puck. I don't have it, but a good friend of mine does (some of you know him as Luis on these boards). I plan on upgrading to this clutch when I upgrade my turbo. There is some chatter when you start moving, but Luis has learned to feather the throttle so it won't do it. Plus, it grabs so nice. And if that weren't enough proof, he busted a 13.3 @ 101 w/ a JWT 50 shot! Proof that it holds and holds on tight!

About the only other negative drawback is that pedal pressure is a lot harder. I have the JWT PP w/ the "pansy pedal" and after driving his car, I nearly put my foot through the firewall in my car! If you do a lot of stop and go driving, it might be a pain.

P.S. I'm originally from Chicago, sorry to hear that it's still freezing over there! :(

I had the extreme PP and went back to a HD. I am pushing the same HP that you are planning with my DET. Do not get the ACT Extreme PP unless you 1. have another car 2. can afford to change the clutch cable 1-2 times a year 3. reiforce not only the clutch arm, but also the clutch cable to tranny mounting bracket.

My car is a daily driver and my wife and I's only car. I got used to the Extreme PP's hard feel, but my wife never did and she hated it. The extreme PP is streetable, but with some drawbacks. If you can live with the drawbacks then it is a great PP. Right now I am running an ACT HD PP with 2000-2001 SE disc. I love the feel but don't know yet how much it slips(I haven't raced it yet).

Good Luck with your decision.

ACT 6-pad with HDPP works like a champ, pedal feel is nice not hard at all and very streetable. It grabs really nice and hard and holds with no slipping. Just ask my tranny, she didn't like the sudden torque the clutch transfered to the wheels...she cracked..:( ..all better know though.:D

hey how is the life with the 6 puck in a street car? i was reading about it, and on some other apps, they say not to use the 6puck with a street car, as it has very short life. some RX7 guy said his went bad in like 6 mos! im deciding now between HD w/ 6 puck or HD w/ B15 SE disc
