hey, i keep hearin of ppl bustin their 3rd gear. once 3rd snaps, can you still drive and not damage the tranny?, (just with no 3rd gear) so anyways im lookin to push 250+ thru the engine, so im thinkin of what to do about the tranny to keep it safe. how common of a problem is breakin a gear for our cars? and, what can i do to keep it safe? ive heard of this shot-peening crap and other stuff, but ive heard it makes it stronger but more brittle, isnt this bad for the shock that would snap a gear? lastly, how much do processes like shot-peening and cyro-treating cost approximately??? thnx for any help!

Hey KIKO whats up bro? I just got my car fixed yesterday. I lost my 3rd gear on a wicked shift to 3rd. I still drove my car but eventually I could no put the car in reverse. I do not recomend driving the car because if there are any chunks of metal from the gears that broke off you can get those stuck in the other gears that will cause the tranny to get worse. I luckily had a spare tranny to swap out that section I ruined (3rd gear)
This is the second tranny I have ruined. These SE-R trannies are very weak. Like my uncle said. The only good thing that tranny has it that it has the LSD! :D

Please just tell me that the classics se-rs are weak and not the 96's. Because if I have a weak ass tranny then I am going to start driving like a drivers ed teacher........haha

still would like to know
Yeah you can still drive it with the gear broken. Some of us Florida people have been known to race Civics without any 3rd gear. AND STILL WIN.. :::cough, cough, ROB cough,cough::::

Yeah Matt the day after I broke my tranny I was driving to my uncles shop and some dude in a Civic EX was trying me so I could not resist! I raced him and wooped him with no 3rd gear. I was so far ahead of him that the 2nd to 4th gear did not affect my race in any way. It was funy as hell.
And as for the you guys. I do not want to scare you all about the trannys. They are good but I drive my car hard as hel. So just take care of it! they will last!!!

Since we're talking about trannys, I just wanted to comment on the Redline MT-90 gear lube for the trans. I was using Mobil full synthetic thinking it would be the best for my trans but after reading a post comparing the different gear lubes and people saying that the Mobil lube is actually not good for my trans, I decided to use Redline MT-90 and the difference is like night and day. I wished I would have used it in my other Se-r's, it could have probably saved me a lot of money on tranny parts.
