I am going to check out a 95 SE-R Friday. I have done some research on this car. It seems that the 5th gear pop-out is the main concern for me. Is there a way to spot it? If it needs repair how much would it normally cost?
I think the SE20 uses timing chain, does it need replecement after 96K miles? Is there any unusual noise I should look under the hood for?
How are the parts availability and costs of this car?
FYI, I am new to the forum.

5th gear popout is only on pre 95 cars.
Timing chains last a long time because of the tensioner it has keeps adjusting it.
95's all have black side mirrors. (yuck)
96's have crappy cams. (yuck)
97's are the best!
DO NOT BUY A SUPER BLACK SER!
This is good advice. :D

What's wrong with the 96s with the cams?
I can get OEM Nissan electric foldable mirrors from Asia, only Americans can accept non-foldable mirrors. I have been to China and the Sentra there has foldable mirrors.
Why not a Super Black SE-R?

the super black paint sucks (I have it) and the (some) 1996 models have cam wear problems that cause it to laque in power.

hey, electric foldable mirrors would be nice... mine are electric, but not foldable... the folding especially comes in handy here in NYC..

95's seem to have leaky taillights. We've waken up to a puddle in the wheel well of the spare tire after a rain fall because of this. All you have to do is seal it up with silicon between the lenses and the body. My brother's '95 has a lot more rattles than my '97, but that could be because of the miles (120K+).

i a got a 95. it has only 68k miles had 62 when i bought it.
i love it, it does seem kinda creaky and not well insulated
(well i know for the Maximas they wieghed less and had less insulation for the 95-96,being the fastest for the 4th gen. Maxima
95-99, could it be the same for SE-R's?)
heck the way i see it, when you see a low mileage SE-R for a decent price, you talk them down as much as they'll go, and take it! Not very many SE-R's in the 200sx's, around here anyway.
