At 10pm EST i will begin my venture into the install of my '91 intake cam. I have the manual, the website (naji), and the torque wrench, and zip ties.
I will have my AIM up later tonight so anyone can offer suggestions if i run into any trouble, I will check this site often.
One question, when tightening the VC back on should i know the order in which to tighten the bolts but how should i reach the 50ft lbs needed for each? Start in small increments?
Let me know any and all advice is appreciated

take a look at the manual again for the vc tightening. It is NO WHERE near 50 ft/lbs. Its 2.9 initially and then I belive around 7 once you are done. If you tighten those down to 50lbs you will just strip them out.

I hope you have a buddy with you to help. One of the install procederes calls for using a block of wood or something? I didn't like that. I'd just take off the timing chain tensioner instead (I think that's how they're related). Be careful not to loose the two very small washers on the bolts if you do (which you should). And the sprocket is tightened to over 150 lb-ft on the cam and it took me and a friend to bust it loose even with a breaker bar (one to hold the cam, the other on the bolt). Then while one of you is changing out the cam, someone has to hold the chain and keep tension it. And when you tighten everything down, do it in small increments in the order they tell you to. Good luck!

oh yeah, check to make sure the chain is on all the guides when you're all done. It'd be bad to start the motor with the chain off one of the guides... both times I've done cam work, the chain got off the guide and we had to put it back on.

if anyone is on now i only took off the sprocket on the intake side and now i cant get the chain to go back so that the intake sproket can be seated correctly how do i engage the tension pin? is it that thing that looks like a needle point pen? and do i push it or what?????
Thanks

Um... hmmm... be VERY CAREFUL... the last thing you want to do is break a bolt in the head. It's kinda odd though, the cam should pretty much drop in... do you have the #1 piston at top dead center? Actually, when I did my cam install, we didn't put the motor in the right position and it made it a pain to get the cam in but we did it very very carefully. Tightening every bolt like a quarter turn at a time. I'd just be very very careful at this point.

let me rephrase....
I can't get the sprocket on the cam and in the seat, the cam will seat but there is too much tension on the chain for the sprocket to be where it needs to.
still trying

Sorry, this may be a little late, but did you take out the tensioner? It's right near the oil filter. You need to reset that thing if you let it take the slack out of your chain. Compress it in a vise, then put the little hook over the pin like a latch. When you start your motor, it'll knock that little latch off and voila, you have tension again.
Good luck
