: Thicker head gasket

Ok, I currently have a Primera engine, and it's anyone's guess if it has the 10:1, or 9.5:1. I am planning on getting some turbo goodies for it. I know at stock boost levels I will be ok, but once I start to upgrade, I was thinking of a thicker head gasket to lower the compression.

Anyone know how much it will lower it? I will look for the thickest one I could find.

thanks

A thicker gasket is booty. It will kill all of the quench area and make the car more likely to detonate. This probably isn't worth it.

You probably have a 9.5:1 motor. Most of the JDM motors are.

Well, here is what I do know about my current engine. It came with a goldish colored VC, all one color, no black center channel, and it came off an automatic Primera...I thought it might be 10:1, but I have no idea.

Primera's engines are a 10:1 compression.

Nope, not all of them, I've talked to some people including Mike K, and he told me he's taken 3 apart and they were 9.5:1...again, I shall never find out what I truly have unless I take it apart.

can't you tell by the tops of the pistons when you pull the head for the gasket anyways?

That would be the only way to find out, but if I do go with the thicker gasket idea, it wont be for a while, I plan to leave it at 6psi for a while.

i wouldnt waste time taking the entire cylinder head off, only to just replace the head gasket, which, like Rob said, will lead to more detonation (check out Turbo mag's SE-Rious sentra, they kept running into detonation)

buying 4 BB DET pistons wouldnt cost much more than the head gasket, and is a much better fix for the compression issue. there is some more labor involved, and some other details need attention, you cant just buy the pistons and slap them in there, of course, i dont know these details but i am sure someone else will come up with the details. i think they cost like $30 something each or some other ridiculously cheap price.

of course, while you were in there.....

or, you can just turbo it, and if it blows up on the 9.5:1 turbo program, it probably was a 10:1. :p

What else would involve doing to the block in order to put BB pistons on a DE block?

First of all, you are not in California, and therefore can get higher than 91 piss water octane. Secondly, just get a good front mount and a 3" exhaust and you should be perfectly fine at stock boost.
