: Gauge questions
Rittmeister 01-11-2006, 07:00 PM Got a few issues I need opinions on.
1. AC Autotechnic gauges. While it's true I wish I had the coin for Defi Link gauges or something similar, I don't, not if I want to do anything else to the car. Anyone here have experience with them? They look less boring than Autometer, seem to have a reputation for accuracy, and aren't too expensive.
2. Which gauges - I WILL run boost and oil pressure, but the question is whether to bother with water temp. I have a temp readout on my fan controller, and another on my Techtom when it's in the car. Do you think I should bother? And don't tell me to get EGT, that won't happen for a while if ever...
Any opinions gratefully received, especially about the Autotechnics.
TUNED200 01-11-2006, 07:09 PM Why are you so against an EGT? IMO, Its the most important gauge you can get.
I dont have any other useful info on the gauges you asked about. Sorry Kent.
Rittmeister 01-11-2006, 07:34 PM I'm not against it - right now I don't feel I need one, with a stock turbo on stock boost. Basically I'll worry about it later - don't want to remove/drill/tap manifold and all that right now. In the future when I upgrade the turbo to some flavor of T28 and turn up the wick I'll probably add one.

Since your looking for opinions ill give you mine.
I would love to have the Defi gauges as well but i am not rich. I went with Greddy gauges all the way around. There not too expensive and there acurate gauges from what i know.
I have 4 Guages in my car,1 60MM Peak/hold Greddy, 3 52MM in the Din above the radio, oil temp, pressure, and EGT. I also have the Power FC Commander showing the water temp in DEG., knock, injector % and boost. I will be adding my LC1 running to the input a/f on my turbo timer.
I know its sounds like a lot but it seems to be pretty mild, and i dont have gauges all over the place to watch.
I suggest, Oil pressure, boost, and water temp at the bear mininum.
g20nutz 01-11-2006, 08:46 PM Megan gauges are nice and inexpensive.
Rittmeister 01-11-2006, 09:00 PM How are they accuracy/durability-wise? It seems like a lot of folks never keep a set of gauges long enough to see how they last.
Ryan, I appreciate your input; I sold the Greddys you sold to me after deciding I'd really rather have black-faced gauges in Imperial units (I are an American after all)...

yeah i sold my old white ones for black face gauges also.
I suggest the 52MM electric greddy gauges, or omori. I like the look of the greddy ones more then the omori ones.
Or get the Defi din panel gauges, there like 500$ and its 3 gauges, oil temp pressure, and water temp.

McCoy 01-11-2006, 09:30 PM I am a fan of the ISSPRO gauges. They are similiar to the Greddy gauges, as in they have a full 270 degree sweep, good backlighting, and have the little electronic box similiar to Greddy's. All this at a fraction of the cost.

Rittmeister 01-11-2006, 09:33 PM Where does one find the ISSPRO gauges, and do you have pics at night with the backlighting? And what is the "little electronic box" you speak of?
McCoy 01-11-2006, 09:38 PM www.isspro.com. But, I suggest you go to egauges.com to purchase, they are 25% cheaper than ISSPRO's website shows.
I can go out to the car tonight and try to get some shots of the lighting. Keep in mind that I never installed any of those little colored condoms on the bulbs, so the color of mine is an off white. I will say that these completely kill Autometer for there lighting...
Rittmeister 01-11-2006, 09:39 PM I'd REALLY be interested in the pics. I'll look forward to seeing them.
So, no one's used the Autotechnics?
McCoy 01-11-2006, 09:47 PM And what is the "little electronic box" you speak of?
The little box that the gauge and the sending unit plugs into. I believe it has something to do with the 270 degree sweep of the gauge.
brian 01-11-2006, 11:10 PM I like my VDO gauges, they are decently cheap (well, comperable to Autometer) and quite a bit nicer :)

McCoy 01-11-2006, 11:54 PM Here ya go...
The center one is a autometer boost gauge. I turned the brightness all the up, it does look better in person than a crappy handheld shot with no flash...

honkeybizkit 01-12-2006, 04:13 AM I have VDO gauges as well. Good enough for Porshe/Audi OEM.
