what if you had lots of money and wanted to creat your NX into something different from everyone elses (that includes other NX's) car. I mean would you custom fabricate any thing into the design. Like for instance maybe R32 taillights? Or maybe some SE-R Spec-V headlights? What would you do?

GTi-R engine with over-head intercooler and custom hood. + Bigger turbo.
Might as well put the GTi-R AWD system on it too.

I would make it look exactly like an Acura Integra ;)

I've actually been thinking about doing this to my Grp2 car:

Dual round headlights on each side, mounted in fibreglass housings, mounted nearly flush with the front of the existing holes.

Grp A Escort Cosworth rear spoiler (not the one that mounts at the roof line)

Replacing OEM fog lights with brake duct openings

The usual VE plans...

Stack digital dash display

Lexan rear and quarter glass

Aluminum tubular control arms and lateral links (if they exist)

AP four pot calipers and big ass rotors

Also, if I ever have the money - a dog gear set for the tranny.

I'd love to try and transplant a GTiR AWD into it, but I think it MUCH more involved than people think:

where does the driveshaft go? (I think you need a hammer...)

it mounts in a subframe - the NX rear has no subframe - how do you mount it?

I could go on.

Libra spent hundreds of thousands in development work to create the Hyundai Tib AWD rally cars and make them tractable/reliable - and they know WAY more than I do...

Just trying to get my post count up...Robin

You rally an NX? Me too.. we should chat if so.

I know putting AWD on on NX would take a lot of fabrication time.
It's on my wish list with the 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo.

I can dream, can't I?

Yeah, I would make mine look exactly like a 911 Turbo.

Now that the Yoko Winter Rallies are done, my P3 car is under construction - actually under tear down and starting cage, hopefully next week. I currently co-drive a Cossie but I hope to have the NX ready for Black Bear (an Ontario regional) near the end of June.

I have a '92 roller which actually has a much better shell than the P3 car - I loosely call it my Group 2 car because one day it will be.

Roger Sanderson from Waterloo has been rallying an NX for about a year and has been doing quite well in Ontario regionals. He's running custom gravel-valved Hot Bits coil-overs - they're pretty cheap and seem to be working well so I'm going to do the same.

I've heard of one other NX from Quebec and a couple of Sentra SERs from the U.S. (we saw one at Perce Neige last week - very fast)

Where are you rallying?

I am down in Southern California. I will be running the rally cross series this year while I build up my car for SCCA ClubRally Production class.

I would love to hear more info about those coil-overs you mentioned. I know a few people running DMS coil-overs, but they seem pretty pricey to me. They just made coil-overs legal in the SCCA production class, so I would really like to make this step.

Are you installing an autopower cage or custom? let me know how it goes. Maybe you can take some pics of the cage for me!

Future mods for the rally car:

cat-back
coil-overs
energysuspension kit
roll cage
rally tires
fancy paint

Thanks

Hey! If you're involved in CRS then you might be familiar with the Jahromi Escort Cosworth - Harley Davidson sponsorship - painted up really nice in stars & stripes? I co-drive that car up here in Canada now.

The Hot Bits rally pieces go for under $2000 Canadian - that's less than $1300 U.S. including springs. DMS 50mm go for around $2700 US with no springs. The North American distributor is Peter Reilly in Brampton, Ontario. He rallies a Focus and runs a shop (Motorsport Distributing) He's very helpful & very friendly - I've sent a couple people his way. He's taking Roger's struts back to Malaysia to have them re-valved and have the tubes modified for additional travel - so I'm waiting for "EVO II" of the pieces.

His email is order@motorsport-dist.com and his phone is 905-795-9369. If you're talking to him, please tell him Robin sent you.

Parts waiting to be installed:

ES bushings
cherry bomb
custom roll cage
Sabelt 6pt belts
TWO-AM Quantum rally odo
alum skid plate

paint: I'm thinking silver with cherry red bumper covers, mud flaps and side mirrors...

I co-drove a couple of 510s back in the late eighties - my uncle built the cages for them - we flipped end-over-end into barrel roll off a right over crest at around 90mph. The car was destroyed (I still have it) The cage didn't budge - so he's building my cage ;)

It's good to hear from another rally freak.

Street signs make excellent skidplates!

I am working on fitting a stop sign up front. It just covers all of the important bits!

I just joined CRS this year, so I do not know of the car you mentioned.

I will contact that guy though and see what he has to say about the coil-overs. That price seems really reasonable.
