: optional slave cylinder???

Being concerned about the future of having to deal with a heavy clutch, wouldn't it be feasible to get a slave cylinder from another car and use that to operate our clutch cable? The hard part would be getting the clutch pedal to depress the slave cylinder, but I'd think it would be worth the work. Has anyone tried this or know of someone who has? I'm guessing not, but why? What do you think Jason?

A slave cylinder is not used on a cable transmission.

I'll have to double check, but a kid I work with has a Nissan pickup that has a slave cylinder clutch and the slave cylinder appears to operate a cable, but I could be wrong. It was upon seeing this setup that I pondered it's application in our cars. I'll go peek at it again and let you know.

Well I went and looked and the slave cylinder goes to hard brake lines and then goes to a rubber line just before the tranny and operates a small piston that pushes on a lever, like what our cable pushes. So I would guess that a person could take a slave cylinder off of another vehicle as well as that piston and modify it to work in a Sentra. Like I said, the only trick would be to figure out how to get the clutch pedal to operate that slave cylinder. Most slave cylinders seem to be small enough that a person could probably fit it under the dash right where the clutch pedal is and then run that brake line through a hole in the firewall. This might be a lot easier than trying to find a clear spot ont he firewall just opposite the clutch pedal. There would certainly be some trial and error in finding a setup that would produce a significantly lighter pedal pressure, and might require a larger slave cylinder such as one from a large truck. Either way I think it could be done and if it would make a racing clutch feel like a stock or better, than it might well be worth the trouble. I'll look into it further once I get an SE-R and start work on it. I just wondered if anyone had tried this already.
