SEfknR 03-06-2002, 08:02 PM I have a 95 200sx se-r, i usualy put 93octane gas but today i put 89 by mistake and i noticed the car was making a funny noise when i steped on it. Does anyone know what it could be? Please somebody help me with this..... Thanx
paradyme 03-06-2002, 11:16 PM Hey I just tunned up my car up and accidentally put too much oil in my engine, When I started it up it ran fine for like 5min then it started a knocking noise. I turned it off ,and the next day I drained some of the oil, car runs fine.
:D
SEfknR 03-07-2002, 08:30 AM Thanx i'll check my oil level!!
Maybe it could be it.
Thanx again.
kpw97 03-07-2002, 08:34 AM Just try not to step on it until you get back to the pumps. You should be ok if you're set to 17 degrees.
On a side note, I really like the looks of your car. What do you have done to it?
SEfknR 03-07-2002, 08:55 AM What if my timing is lower then 17 will it cause any harm...
Because i was kinda steping on it untill i noticed the little knocking noise and i hope i didnt mess up my motor... Should i leave the timing a little retarded until i get back to 93 octanes and then put it back up to 17. Cause i retarded the timing yesterday when i heard that noise and it wasnt making as much noise, if any at all... I hope i didnt mess it up....
Thanx for your help
NismoNx2000 03-07-2002, 10:28 AM If your timing is set 15 degrees to 16 degrees regular octane is fine. If your running 17 to 19 degrees, premium gas is what you want to run. It could be your oil level too. You might have too much, or even too little oil in there. I would baby it until you get back to the gas station and put some premium in there.
SEfknR 03-07-2002, 10:53 AM Do you think i messed up anything.... Since i was driving it kinda hard right after i put the gas, and i had the window open and then at take of that knocking would sound. I hope i didn't, cause if i did i will feel stupid.
Thanx for your help.I'll be at englishtown on saturday, if you want to meet there let me know
Laterz
paradyme 03-07-2002, 11:25 PM Hey where are you from in NEWARK? I'm from the bricks. I grew up in north NEWARK and went to Barringer high. You know I came back to your posting and took a glimpse at the back round of your photo and No Shit, I said to myself that looks like NEWARK?
Strange ain't it, small world. I now live in VA.
:D
SEfknR 03-08-2002, 08:49 AM Yeah thats kewl bro. Do u have any pics of ur ride?
I'm having a little prob with my car, i put some fd-up gas up in there now its running funny and it makes this little knock from time to time, hopefully when i get back to my good gas it will be fine.
Well it was nice to meet u bro keep in touch laterz...
NismoNx2000 03-08-2002, 09:55 AM hey man, i hope everything goes ok with your car. I would get some good gas in there as soon as possible, heck even go to sunoco and get there gt gasoline if necessary...its 100 octane...chris (nismoser) and i arent going to be able to make it to englishtown this saturday, but we will have to set something up in the future when we go again. peace.
ser_lover 03-09-2002, 01:07 AM Damn man......I really like your car......I like the front and the side skirts......A! from me....
p.s. about the gas......you didnt mess anything up .....its just where the car is use to running 93 and all the sudden you put some regular in there.......It will be fine when you get back to the pumps. =)
Chrissy 03-09-2002, 03:05 PM I got lucky and didn't hear a single ping when the gas station did this to me. :) Only then put 87 in my car!
SEfknR 03-10-2002, 02:33 AM Thanx for the advice everyone, today i went to sunoco gas station i filled up with ultra 94 and it's runing back the same way....
Thanx again.....
I think this whole high octane gas in NA SR20s with 17+ timing is a crock. I've been running 19-20 degrees since I knew how in both my Sentra SE (only when NA, when turbo it got 93) and my NX2000 and I haven't heard a single ping. I know what detonation sounds like as my Sentra began to overheat driving around Las Vegas last June and I heard pinging and looked down and WHOA temp was up quite a bit. Also playing with a toilet valve "boost controller" one night I experienced it. I personally would keep to 87 octane running NA, unless I was lapping or something maybe in high heat.
