i'm cruising along at, let's say 40 mph, and i need to make a turn or slow down. i hit the clutch and coast a little distance before i downshift. during the time that i'm coasting, the revs drop all the way down to 500-600 rpms before it returns to idle, which is 800 rpm. so i get this stuttering from the engine - it feels as if the car is about to stall. i suspect that it's the result of a dirty throttle body, but i haven't had a chance to clean it out yet. i thought it'd be worth my time to ask you all if you've experienced this before, and if so, what have you done to remedy this problem. thanks in advance for any/all help!

check the base idle as well because if its not set properly it tends to do some weird stuff like that.

base idle being the plastic screw on the left side of the port (when facing the engine bay)? i've tinkered with that. maybe i just need to be more patient. but thanks for the advice!

Don't just play with the screw man, here's how to tune it up properly... www.se-r.net/engine/adjust_idle.html
