: What would you do? (Nissan Service)
CleanB15 03-07-2002, 12:17 PM Well, I had my trunk repaired for a leak on one of the spoiler grommets back late last year at Town North Nissan. It turns out that they never actually fixed the leak because I was still getting water in my trunk. I don't have time to just take it down there, so I lived with it. I've noticed a rattle of the trunk when I go over small bumps soon after their repair, and go back to investigate. I find a small dent below the right leg of the spoiler so I take it into Nissan Service here @ San Marcos Nissan. The service manager looks at it and tells me that "Nissan will participate in no way shape or form in the repair of your trunk." So I take the next logical step, Nissan Consumer Affairs. I talk to a CA Agent from consumer affairs quite often over the next two months to come to a conclusion, get a bodyshop estimate, and the total is $560.10 just to repair the one dent in the trunk. The CA Agent then says that Nissan has agreed to cover half of that cost only. For some reason I feel like I'm getting the short end of the stick here. A Nissan repair does work on a car, not to spec, and damage to the trunk results. I bring it into another dealer they refuse to fix it whatsoever, get in contact with Nissan Consumer Affairs and they say they are only going to cover half? Right now I don't even care about the spoiler, and I brought up with the CA Agent that I would be fine with a new trunk without any holes for spoiler, as long as they covered it. A new trunk being $300 unpainted.... what would you all do in my position? What course of action can I take? The damage results in a fumbled job by Town North Nissan, and a loose trunk latch. Comments?

SERprise In WV 03-07-2002, 12:23 PM If it were me, I'd consult with an attorney about the matter. It sounds like you have a course of action against the dealership that botched the spoiler job enough to have another dealership refuse to work on it. Hopefully, you have the paperwork from the original repair.
Also, I would make the dealership very aware that you are consulting an attorney and that any further contact by them should be made through that lawyer.
Usually, moves like that will get their attention.
Good luck.
brian 03-07-2002, 12:53 PM ya, definately, go to Round Rock Nissan, they are our sister store, they are pretty good from what I hear................
CleanB15 03-07-2002, 01:00 PM I've had run-ins with Round Rock Nissan in the past, that is where I bought my car from. I just want it to be fixed! Preferrably a new trunk lid! Its not problem getting a lawyer involved because my uncle is one, and he lives in houston. I'd just like to circumvent the legal process if possible, so far it doesn't seem the case.

Have your uncle send a letter to the dealership on his office stationary.
It's amazing how fast that will work. It's worked for me in the past!
It's the most effective way of dealing with this. Being polite obviously isn't working.
Scarpa 03-07-2002, 01:55 PM You don't actually have to enter into a whole legal process. Usually a letter from a lawyer detailing your greivances against the dealership will wake them up enough to work with you more. You DEFINITELY should not pay a single cent out of pocket to get this fixed.
aztecred92 03-07-2002, 03:49 PM I love my Nissan Sentra SE-R, but I have never been happy with the service I've received from Nissan or any dealership for that matter (which is why I've performed every repair and upgrade myself).
I once took my SE-R to fix a loose rear spoiler. Turns out they can't just tighten a few nuts, but have to order a completely new one. Since spoilers come unpainted, they'll also have to paint it. No problem I say initially, since it's covered under warranty. Problem rears it's ugly head when I notice a long scrape along the passanger door. This occurred while the car was under their care sometime during the installation of the new spoiler. When I presented the scrape to the service rep. he denied responciblity for it. I had to bitch and complain my way up the chain of command. Finally, I they agreed to pay for the repaint of the door. The experience still only reinforced my negative opinion of dealership service facilities.
spdracerUT 03-07-2002, 07:06 PM I've had pretty good luck so far with South Point here in Austin. I've been to Town North, didn't really like them much. There's a guy Monty at South Point and he has a 240sx. Talked to him about it and he was thinking of slapping a big turbo on it. I've seen a modified Z there before too in one of the bays.
BUT, I doubt you'll have any luck with them fixing your trunk because THEY didn't to it, Town North did. But if I MUST take my car to a dealer, I take it to South Point.

sr20detutah 03-07-2002, 09:29 PM Wow guys. Here in Utah I've had great experiences with the Nissan dealerships. I rarely go to one, but when i have they have been very good to me, even with my DET. Out here it's the Honda dealership that I've gotten so pissed off at that their manager called me after I went in and tried to make a deal with me. I declined an fixed my wifes car for $10 using radio shack parts as opposed to $300 to fix her headight switch. What pissed me off is the $90 they charged me just to tell me that the headlight switch had gone bad. I told them that I already knew this and that is why I brought it in. Sorry for loosing site of the topic.
Clean B15, I agree with spnx and Scarpa. Just get a letter sent.
Hope everything works out for you.
