: Power door lock switch(es) fried?

The other night it was pouring and I left my door open for a few minutes when loading my snowboarding gear into my car and taking off my boots to put on my normal shoes. Later that night the switch (I can only speak for the driver side) stopped locking the car but it would unlock fine. The next day, neither driver or passenger side switch would lock or unlock the car. My power windows still work so from what I read in other threads I probably fried a switch.

Only my driver side door was exposed to the rain. Would the frying of this switch cause the passenger side switch to not work as well? Basically I am wondering if I need to replace one or two door switches.

If the drivers side switch is fuxed then the passenger side wont work either. Try spraying some contact cleaner in there and working the switch around.

I f'd up my driver switch by leaving my window down in the rain. It can affect the functionality of the passenger switch. As an example, if I locked the car with the passenger side the driver side sometimes disagreed and immediately unlocked it. It can (and will) also lock or unluck your doors at will, making it possibe to lock your keys in the car and unlock the car while you are away. It sucks, but when you replace (or fix) the driver side, the passenger side will be fine.

I feared that my locks would lock and unlock at will. When I got to my car yesterday the passenger side was unlocked and I could've sworn that I had made sure that both were locked. I figured that it started wiggin out :( I need to take everything out of my car because I leave my car at a lot on campus during the week and only get it on the weekends. I DEFINITELY don't trust college kids to not screw with my car

Any autoparts store will have contact cleaner spray for under $5.
