: NX brakes needed

A fellow Classic owner in my area wants some NX brakes. I told him to get some Wagner calipers from Carparts.com like I did because they came with the mounting bracket (VERY important). Apparently Wagner no longer supplies to Carparts. So, where else can a person get an NX caliper with the bracket? The other options at Carparts.com are Al Cardone, Bendix and Raybestos. Anyone know any of those come with the bracket?

Thanks.

A1 cardone comes with the bracket. I got it for $50 from a local store around my place, crossed drilled rotors for $55 as much as you dont like them as well.

Actually since its a loaded caliper it came with pads, and lines were $85 but I didnt get a chance to buy them. It still brakes pretty good.

thanks for th info guys. Do the A1s from Carparts come with said bracket? I guess it doesn't matter where he get them I guess, as long as they have the bracket.

How much I paid:
Loaded calipers from Carparts: $45 each AFTER coupons and core charge refund.
Rotors from www.brakeco.com: $30 each
SS lines: $129

So all total, I paid ~ $300 after shipping charges. Put off the lines, and you're under $200 easily for NX brakes.

damn, and now this post comes.. after I paid a good amount more than that without the lines
well at least I don't have to return cores... well I didn't have cores to return anyway but still I'm sure the cores aren't that much

Wow, great shopping skills. I paid about that without brakelines.

Did you return the core? How much is it? Do you think they would recognize Sentra calipers? cause thats what I returned to local autoparts and they never noticed. What kind of pads were in the calipers?

PS were did you get coupons and how much of value were they?

Not unless you have an NX. ;)

I wrote a letter to the SCCA last year to try and get the NX2000 and Sentra SE-R on the same line of the Solo rule book (so then you could legally run NX brakes on an SE-R), but I never heard back from them. :(

Why buy braided lines for AD22VFs before buying a MC????? Seems like lines are just a bandaid fix. Besides a NX m.c. will prob cost less and if the pedal isnt right you can still buy lines and have an even better pedal.

One more thing.... So if you do decide to buy a NX M.C. do you get one w/ or w/o abs??? On my se-r i found that the ABS has two Lines out whereas the Non ABS Mc has 4 lines. My currently NonABS

this can get confusing but is anyone following me?

correct me if I'm wrong but stock rubber lines expand under high heat thus making pedal softer... I would think m.c. would only be needed for the correct ratio of f/r brakes

exactly, NX brakes create a F/R bias problem. buying braided lines will fix an expansion problem and better pedal feel.. i can see how the lines would help but thats why i say its a bandaid fix.

Black93, can you guide me with my brake upgrade then? I have a '97 200SX SE-R, and I just bought a NX2000 kit.... I was also planning on getting SS lines to help out, and I read somewhere that I should also replace the Master Cylinder. Now what would you suggest I do? Get the Master Cylinder also? Do I have to do anything to my rear brakes? thanks a lot.

I don't know how it is with the Classic's, but I kept the stock M/C when I did the NX brake upgrade for my 200sx, I was told by several SE-R list members (and archived SE-R list posts seemed to back up the same point) that retaining the stock M/C instead of using the NX M/C will provide better pedal feel and firmness; something to the effect of having more front brake bias with the non-NX M/C. To compare both my NX and my 200SX, I have to say the pedal feel is much better in my 200SX; more firm. Both cars have the same brake pads (Axxis Metal Master) and both cars have SMC brake lines. Black93, I don't know what you mean by having the s/s lines as a "bandaid fix", but I can tell you a M/C swap is *NOT* necessary for NX brakes.

After a little archive searching, Well i retract my "bandaid' statement.

I dont totally understand why but even Mr. Roffe agrees that the "upgraded" MC has a softer pedal. your right.

Domiguy:

Im no expert so im going to have to pass the buck to one of these other guys if you have any more questions. But you should just bolt the brakes on and see how they feel. if they arent just right then get braided lines. The rear brakes can be left as is. Its been established that your factory master cylinder will provide good feel and bias with NX brakes. hope that helps.

If there is truth to the rumor that the first 91 SE-Rs were made in Japan and shipped here with the larger brakes, then yes, you are able to backdate to these brakes. If this rumor is false, then...oops. What NX brakes. I don't kniow what you're talking about.

Someone with a B12 Sentra bought my calipers. Generally the core charge is anywhere from $35-$50. Advance Auto supposedly accepts Carparts.com core returns. Open box, insert SE-R calpiers, return with a smile :) . The pads were BrakePad brand brake pads. Nothing special, but they work just fine. Really. I even used them on track for a day when my EBCs wore to backing plate. The coupons were online coupons at Carparts.com. Something like 20% off any purchase of $100 or more for first time buyers.

Since Jc Whitney bought out or merged with carparts they no longer give out coupons like that. Thats how I got my clutch 33% off list, something like 287 shipped for ACT but now its onlyl ike 10% off or just free shipping.

Axxis MM pads work well, but they wear out fast. I put new ones on my car last July and I have to change them already tommorow.
