I am actually selling them, except they are chrome. But I am sure you could open them up on paint them black.

OK, I gotta ask. I've seen these things on a lot of cars, and I've always wondered. Is there a noticable difference in brightness? Or are they just for looks? Can anybody give me "before and after" impressions?

I have them, and I saw no diffrence in brightness. I think most people upgrade to these simply for looks. At least thats what I did.

I have to agree w/ NJB, I got them for the look. Unfortunately I actually think they give off less light than stock.:( If I could do it all over I probably would consider the crystal clears as opposed to the projectors to maintain light, but it isn't that bad.

Yeah.. I bought the black ones from www.Nis-Knacks.com (correct spelling) when they still had them. They give off less light than the stock ones, but they look Hella-nice!!! I think www.Robocar.com might be selling black projectors... i may be wrong thou...

Is it possible to change the bulbs to something like a hyper white bulb?

I put new hyper white bulbs in and it made a huge diffrence.
They are as bright if not brighter than stock. However the bulbs were like $65 by themselves.

I've had bad experiences with upgrading to hyperwhites... Our electrical system doesn't like anything other than 55 watts... i've fried my wiring twice... luckily it was still under warranty! Be careful!!!

So any aftermarket bulb with 55 wattage should work.
Now I have another question for you guys. Do any of you have the projectors with the blue glass? I know of a few places that sell these, but I wasn't sure how they look lit up and whether they're legal. I asked a friend of mine who is a cop whether they were fine, and he said that new blue projectors are legal. But I'm not exactly sure if this goes for aftermarket stuff and the so called "projectors" that are available for our cars.

I use piaa's xtreme white bulbs (55w->110W) and have had no problems what so ever. Any thing higher I would be afraid it would melt the housing. (I know a few people who have done this.)

Ok first off, if you want black one's just buy some chrome one's and make them black. It's really simple. AND it DOESN'T involve paint. But if you are going to go the black route get the corners from Nis-Knacks. That way they match. I'm in the process of getting some for mine (for those that care). As far as the brightness. They're for looks not brightness. Go buy some nice foglights, and be done with it. I have Piaa 1100X platinums, and they make twice the light that my headlights do.

From what I know you can't get the black projectors new anymore... maybe you can be lucky and get them new, but I haven't ever seen one set for sale. I also got the chromes ones and painted them black, but Matt found a better way to make them black w/o even painting them. I've been having some electrical trouble with mine though, sometimes they don't turn on, sometimes both the high and low beams turn on and other stuff. Well I may be buying another set soon because I cracked one of my projector housings.

Hey Matt,
I have a pair that I want to paint or somehow get black. Can you explain the process and if I go with paint, does anyone know how difficult this process would be?

Matt told me he used paint thinner to take the chrome off and low and behold, underneath it was already black with no need to paint them. I actually sanded the chrome a bit, put a few coats of primer, then a few coats of black, but I'm sure Matt's method is much easier and better. Matt, do you happen to have any pictures of your lamps? I would like to see how they came out.

To open them up, that's another ordeal. I didn't have luck putting it in the oven or using a hairdryer, but others have, Matt, can you tell us how you opened up your lamps? I pryed it open with a screwdriver on the bottom (which warped the plastic but it was on the bottom so it's ok) then I kept prying it open and cutting the glue with a razor.

Well, I'll give it a try. Hopefully I'll have some luck. Would a heat gun work or is that what you tried?

I didn't try a heat gun, I didn't have one, I tried a hairdryer, but that might work. The heat is basically used to heat up the glue to help you seperate the housing easier.

All I can say is that I'm glad I was able to get a set of black ones while Nis-Knacks still had them... I'm glad I didn't have to go through all that kind of trouble to make them that way...
