Did the following to my NX starting thursday 7pm-12am, then friday 12pm-9pm....

New clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, clutch cable, axles, front brakes, axle seals, net. pos. switch, and oil pressure switch....

All I can say is SHEEEESH...

My advice for anyone attemting this - get a VERY large breaker bar or have a large pipe to slide over a breaker bar, and a bottle of liquid wrench.

I also suggest bolting a piece of plywood to your jack to help get the tranny lined up.....

Problems I ran into:
Tranny drain plug froze
caliper bolts broke (thank god for extra NX brakes)
needed front brakes
Getting the drivers side axles out (sonofa)
Clutch cable was a biznitch

That was it though my fiance's dad helped and ripped half the skin off my right index finger the first night which rendered me almost useless the rest of the time....

For those with a clutch cable issue wondering wether or not to do it - GO FOR IT... That made the MOST freakin difference I've seen in a car, I LOVE my pedal feel now its GREAT......

Anyways all was well and it worked out pretty good but boy did it suck....

Hate to sound like a dumbass here, but what did you do to the clutch cable?

Replaced it - its like a 30-40 dollar part, goes between your pedal and the actual throw out arm on the tranny.

Its just a metal cable with plastic covering it and an adjustment point, but when it freezes up it takes a ton of effort to depress the clutch pedal, now its nothing..

Anyone do a write up on how to do this? I don't want to try to use my Haynes for something like that. My clutch is kinda crunchy and hard.

Basically you'll need to remove the air filter and possibly the fuse box near the battery so that you can look straight down at the clutch arm/cable. Loosen the nut until you can slip the thing off of the arm. Then it pulls out of a bracket on the transmission. Once you've done all that fun stuff, climb under your car and at the very top of the clutch pedal assbly you'll find where the cable connects, pull it off of the "hook" its on, and pull the cable out from the engine bay side (you'll see where it enters the firewall, very high up on the drivers side far corner).

Next fish the new cable into the firewall, connect it at the pedal, run it back out into the bracket, then attach the hook part onto the throwout arm and adjust the nut to the correct feel and viola your done...

Note - its a bitch working around the firewall, where the clutch attaches to the pedal assembly and fishing back through the firewall are the hardest parts.

Best of luck.

Man, you gotta head up to my place for these things. I've done like 9 clutch jobs now on SR20s and it's a piece of cake. 4-5 hour job not rushing. If you want help doing something on your car, head up here! Space, heat, tools, etc.

Thanks for the offer, I may have to take you up on that some time....

I don't think it would have been so bad except getting the transmission lined back up - that was the bastard of it all.....

Thanks and I may head up after installing the DET into my 200sx for some tuning help if needed.

CHris,

Congradulations on the work!! Did you have any problems with the tranny switches? Or any advice on replacing them?

Actually I replaced the netural safety switch for two reasons...
1. Cruise didnt and still doesnt work, thought that might have something to do with it...
2. When I put the alarm/remote start in I tested the wire at the ECU that should be showing ground when in gear - it wasnt showing anything ever, tommorow I'll test to see if its showing ground now but I'm pretty darn sure it was toast, also I was leaking fluid from that area.....

But ya it wasn't to bad except breaking the bolts off in the torque brackets on the brakes.... other than that and lining the bastard up it wasn't all that nasty.... just not fun.
