Hi Guys,

I have purchased a Sentra 200 STi and it uses the SR20DE engine. I sold my 1800 corolla and bought this car because this car has a reputation of being fast and also liked it a lot. I am still not completely happy with the performance and fuel comsumption. The car is only 6 months old and is on warranty so I am not able to make any major conversions.

Is there any simple changes that I can make to the car to increase performance/better the fuel economy. So far, I have been able to modify the exhaust system plus put on a KingDragon performance air filter.

Could you please also tell me exactly how strong these engines are and how much of power that they handle and are capable of.
According to the specs that I have, it is 105 KW and 170 Nm of torque.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,
Mervyn G

there are quite a few things avail. for that car, you just have to look around to see what is available in your area. I believe shipping would probably kill you if you bought something from somewhere else in the world and had it shipped.....

Have you advanced your timing. Advancing will give you a noticable diffrence.

Hi Darren,

Hey, you car does look cool, I haven't seen one of those shapes in South Africa.

-------

On my Corolla, I had the timing advance by 2 degrees from 12 to 14. It made a slight difference of picking up my speed by about 5 kms at 3000 rpm. Due to a warranty on this car, I don't want to change the settings without knowing what the full impact will be.
What would you suggest the timing change by for this engine?

I am trying to get hold of Nissan Motorsport South Africa, but is having no luck.

A good place to get an idea of what can be done to the engine is at SE-R.net:

http://www.se-r.net/engine/index.html

I don't know what sort of aftermarket you have access to, but intake, headers (extractors), and hotter camshafts are universally effective on SR20DE cars.

The SR20DE is a tough engine with timing chain instead of a timing belt, and it's a decent performer. However, over the years American SR20DE cars have had the redline lowered and emissions equipment added. The output has always remained the same, but some say the "edge" is gone. There are aftermarket fixes, though. A domestic Nissan tuner company called Jim Wolf Technologies produces an ECU computer upgrade that increases the stock redline as well as improve the fuel mapping, etc. on SR20 cars.

Searching in these forums and in the SE-R List (http://www.se-r-list.org/) Archives will probably turn up a lot of info.

I'm sure a lot of us here would be interested in what find out about your car. I don't know much about SA-spec SR20DE cars. From a picture I just found on the Internet, it looks like the Sentra 200 STi is a N14-chassis Nissan, more like the Australian Pulsar SSS (http://www.se-r.net/about/pulsarsss/index.html) than an North American B14 Sentra.
