: tires spin while car jacked in the air
Sr20kidD 01-26-2006, 11:20 AM What causes this? if the car is jacked up in the air, neutral position and the tires spin. I thought it was maybe the clutch grabbing too much, so i loosened it up, and still they spin.
Is this the cause of a bad lsd?
intiractive 01-26-2006, 11:22 AM i've seen this in many other vehicles, i dont know about any se-r's, but i've seen it happen several times before.
chriscar 01-26-2006, 11:22 AM It's because your trans fluid is cold and thick. You could actually stop the tires from spinning with your foot, but don't blame me if the car sucks you up!

Nyc Sr20PowerD 01-26-2006, 11:28 AM i see this alot, on automatic cars esp
coach 01-26-2006, 11:31 AM I agree with CHriscar, it happens cause there is just enough friction in the trans fluid to put a bit of pressure on the gears so they turn. All is good man.

McCoy 01-26-2006, 11:33 AM I 3rd whats been said, oh... I have a new Nismo LSD and mine does it.
Oh yeah, Shockproof heavyweight in below freezing conditions makes shifting fun :)
cortrim1 01-26-2006, 11:44 AM its normal. it spins because the tranny oil creates a contact area to drive the axel. at least that was what was explained to me. if you grab the wheel with you hand it will stop.
chriscar 01-26-2006, 11:46 AM *if you grab the wheel with you hand it will stop.
*Unless you're running shockproof heavy and it's real cold! :eek2:

FarmBoss 01-26-2006, 12:33 PM If the wheels are NOT on the ground, and the car is in neutral, the wheels will spin if moved.
this is NOT anything new:rolleyes:

he is talking about the wheels spinning on their own.

That's not what he said. He's saying that they're spinning by themselves while in neutral.

Sr20kidD 01-26-2006, 01:09 PM yea i made sure i said the right thing the first time around farmboss
thanks, i am using shockproof its just kinda weird seeing the spin.
adg016 01-26-2006, 01:17 PM What everyone else said...this is normal.

how cold are we talking I run shock proof heavy:biggthump
how cold are we talking I run shock proof heavy:biggthump
freezing = 32* Fahrenheit/0* Celsius

Is the engine running? If not, I must say I find it hard to believe the wheels will spin even with the higher viscosity fluid because there is no motive force.

Where's the confusion here? You don't REALLY think I said the wheels were turning by themselves with the engine NOT running do you? If so, give me the key to your drug cabinet, I want some.
