: Stock boost 10psi??

Ok I have a BlueBird setup all stock. (top mount IC/JDM ECU/No Exhaust) The car had a Manual Boost Controller on it set at 12psi. It was one of the cheapest most ghetto looking MBC I have seen. But it did hold boost good.

Anyways I think that 12psi is a little too much with a stock fuel pump and no management. So I decided to take the MBC off until I get some more supporting mods. So I take it off and go for a test drive and the car is now boosting at 9-10psi. It isnt spiking or falling off. Why is it boosting so high? Maybe because of no exhaust?

Anyways the car feels good, but it does break up at about 7k. It kinda feels like the rev limiter but not as harsh. Maybe fuel cut??? It did this at 12psi also.

Thanks

its running that boost off the w/g.i think the rev. limit is 7200 on the stock bb ecu's.

well stock boost for that motor is 6.5-7psi. maybe waiste gate is stuck?

Yes it is running off of the W/G.

7200 rev limiter would explain it. Good to know

If the waste gate is stuck is there anything I can do or do I just need a new one? If I could find one.

but the controller back on and set it to 7-9 psi.

Yeah I guess I could do that. I have one last question. Will this matter later on when I get an electronic boost controller? I wouldn't think it would matter just want to be sure.

Thanks for the replies

If the w/g isnt working right I would fix it b/f getting a ebc. If I take off my mbc my t-25 goes straight too 6.5psi, maybe 7. I have a 3" exhaust all the way back with no cat, so I would say that 10psi on stock w/g is a problem. And a rev limit is should feel different then car breaking up like you said, that could be that stock fuel pump.

Yeah I am worried about the stock fuel pump, thats why I removed the MBC. Is there anything I can do to fix/test the waste gate? And aren't they hard to find?

Save money and get full T28 kit. Also Charlie is going to pick up te struts and springs from ya.

I never touched the brakes, those were all you. Yeah I should throw that tranny away I forgot. How much is he going to give me for the struts/springs? Are you going to buy my XE-R soon? If not I might post it up.

Does anyone have a stock waste gate they could sell me?

I tested my w/g by putting hooking a compressor air line to the vacum and gave it some air, to see if would open and closer properly. Also you can reach down there to make sure it is tight and not flopping around. But if you are seeing higher boost then normal then most likely it is sticking. I shoved the end of vacum line into a tire air nipple, and compressed it that way, shouldnt take much. Hope that helps ya.

^^^^Test it the way blckse-r describes. The wastegate rod should move when you apply pressure to the line. Also, no air should leak out of the line or the wastegate actuator. When you apply pressure to the line you should not be able to here any air escaping. If you do there might be a tear in the rubber diaphragm in the actuator. If it's ripped or leaking that's why you are getting higher than normal boost levels, the actuator is needing 9-10 PSI to move the wastegate rod instead of the stock PSI level, which is 6-7PSI I believe. Same thing happened to me a year ago. I picked up a universal T3 actuator on ebay for $60 and modified the rod so it would work for me, I am still using it today. But changing out the actuator while the turbo and manifold are still bolted to the motor....not fun.
