Hey all. JACEN99SE and I just installed a new OE replacement clutch in my '96 G20 last Thursday. Today, I started the car up and noticed that when the clutch is in neutral and I release the clutch pedal, the RPM's go down about 100 revs to 150 revs abd stay there. When I push the pedal back in the RPM's go back to idle.
Seems as if the disc is engaging against the flywheel in neutral causing force on the engine. (???)
Is this normal or do I have the clutch cable possibly to tight/loose?

the clutch is in neutral
I am guessing you mean that the transmission is in neutral. So the scenario from what I understand is this:
1. The car is running (flywheel is spinning).
2. The transmission is in neutral.
3. The clutch is released (flywheel is driving the input shaft).
4. The rpm's go down.
When the transmission is in neutral, the gears that drive the half shaft (and essentially the wheel) are spinning around the shaft instead of turning it. If the rpm's are going down, it means that something is putting a resisting force against the engine. This should NOT be happening when the car is in neutral. The only thing that I can think of is the gears are not spinning around the shaft as freely as they should. I hope someone else can reply to this with more thought as I could be missing something. This is stupid, but would changing the transmission fluid have any affect? Possibly.

Mine did this when it was colder than shiz outside before I put the new clutch in, haven't noticed it since - only thing I can think is the added weight of the clutch/whatever is spinning in the tranny in really heavy cold gear oil does it????
Anyone?

I've noticed this when my cars are cold. Does it happen when the car is warmed up?

Thanks for the info guys!
Hey Jason. Yea, it did happen this morning when it was freakin' freezn' outside. I only drove it a little and it started to only fluctuate about 10-50 RPM's after it somewhat warmed up. I'll assume that it is the cold since we kinda got hit with the chill factor last night.
The Valvoline Hypo 80W90 GL-4 Gear Oil could be some of it as well, beause the shifts were slightly stiffer than normal as well for about 2-5 mins. Then they smoothed out about the same time.
