: Drill and Tap - Check
Saaby 01-29-2006, 11:39 PM After many misshaps and a trip to the emergency room, I fought back and got the mission accomplished. This was the drill and tap portion of the turbo project for my 99 SE-L. Its essentially a Turbonetics (F-MAX) Stage I kit....The first problem I ran into was the setback on Saturday when I had to go to the emergency room because I was being a dumbass and not paying attention. Basically I cut my face a little when the stock downpipe and catylitic converter assembly shifted when I removed one of the hangers and landed on my face! So kids, BE SURE to pay attention when you are about to remove something that is dangling on top of your face! So after I got stitched up, I decided to get back in the heat of things when the next problem popped up. I realized that I needed to rent a right-angle drill to fit between the block and the A/C condenser with the radiator shifted up. On Saturday night, there was no rental shops open or the ones that were open did not have any right angle drills. Then on Sunday I lucked out. I found out "Nations Rent" is open and had a right-angle drill for rent. So I get the drill and test fit it and realize it is still barely long!...The only option was to find a way to cut about an inch off the drill bit shank. I had to drive about 40 miles to a coworkers house to get the job done. After all that jazz, I had to go out yet again to by a tiny 1/4" breaker bar to use with a small 10mm socket which would fit inside the little crevis and get the 2 nuts off the upper oil pan which are located near the transaxle. Oh well it really was a blood, sweat, and tears experience. But there is a lot more work to be done. I have already installed the clutch and flywheel, jb welded tranny, ecu, and 370cc injectors. Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure!

You know what is sad.... I have a scar under my left eye from the exact same thing while doing the same thing. Only I didn't go to the er..... cause I'm lazy and was alone in shop in middle of night.

Yea, so did I. Especially since the ac wasnt gonna be used anymore anyway.
Anyhow, good job. Good to see another turbo sel in the works.:biggthump

That's what I did too, and from the looks of it your radiator was damn near removed anyways. But if you still had A/C in the car then that's a different story. Anyways, hope all goes well for you from here on out, keep us posted. :biggthump
paNX2K&SE-R 01-30-2006, 06:54 AM Looks good. Where did you get the brass fitting?
Rittmeister 01-30-2006, 07:17 AM Good going Saaby! Sorry I wasn't that much use this past weekend, just had too much on my own plate. Let me know when you pick the install back up.

Yeah, I have read about guys doing it without removing anything , but F that!! I took all that crap out and went straight at it, ha.
blckse-r 01-30-2006, 08:25 AM Got any pics of the jb welded tranny? I have thought about doing this too. Nice work man.
Driven97 01-30-2006, 09:06 AM Did you ever find that 10mm bolt from your water pump pulley?

Haha! Its funny you remember that. Nope, that thing vanished into thin air. I swear it!
Saaby 02-02-2006, 10:42 PM Looks good. Where did you get the brass fitting?
It came with the Turbonetics Stage I kit.

One thing that was kind of a challenge, was to find a way to keep the tranny face up to keep the JB Weld from running out of the cavities when its gooey. What I did, was put a big bucket upside-down on a corner wall and put the tranny on the bucket while making it lean towards the corner of the wall. Unfortunately I only have a pre JB Weld pic, but this might help:

nsn240 02-02-2006, 11:09 PM new kid question... arent you worried about getting metal shavings inside the block?
looks good though

Both upper and lower oil pans are removed for the drill/tap procedure, and as long as you're careful or use some cardboard on the inside of the block to prevent shavings from shooting upwards then you have nothing to worry about.

That pic actually did help out. Thanks. I bet that used a TON of jb weld right? I wonder if I can do that while tranny on car, was off and I thought about it but didnt:squint:

HEHE not happening on the car, it will run right out.
Killdannow 02-03-2006, 02:07 PM you guys think jb weld is stronger than a good epoxy? I mean they use epoxy on space shuttles and well, I have never used jb weld on anything and had it work. Just wondering.
