: Something Has To Give Guys!!!! Wtf!
ProjectSE-R 03-10-2002, 06:12 PM OK, as some or most of you know I have gone through 2 starters in a month in a half. Well, chalk it up to 3 in 2 months. I went out today to do a fuel pressure test to find my bucking problem at low to medium throttle and the bitch wouldn't start again.
Same symptoms as before: No warning of failure and no clicking of the solenoid when you try to start it. The solenoid just dies.
I have my battery relocated, BUT I have 0 gauge power and 4 gauge ground wires going from the block to the battery then from the battery to the trunk. All are solid, all are PERFECT connections, battery is full of juice and my brain is about to explode. Could this relocation of the battery have ANYTHING to do with this starter failure? Its like the starters work for 3 weeks then go to shit.
I am at a loss right now and am just about to the end of my rope on this. Thanks for anyone that cares to take a crack at this for me! :(
Saaby 03-10-2002, 09:30 PM Just a shot in the f'n dark: Have you been using the same brand starter? If so, try a different one...a brand new one maybe with a warranty?

Well man, the first one was the stock one on my DE. The second and 3rd were from a G20, the Mitsubishi one, both used. I think I will just bite the bullet and get a new one with a lifetime warranty, that way, all I have to do if it ever goes again is rip it off, replace it and roll with it. That will be fun replacing every month though, unless its just BAD luck, getting 2 starters ina row that were already on their way out.
Loe Lyf 03-10-2002, 10:34 PM Hit the starter with a hammer. I went through 2 in 3 months, and when I put the 3rd one in, it wouldn't start. I hit it with a hammer, and now she works every time!!
ProjectSE-R 03-10-2002, 10:48 PM Thanks Dave, I will do that tomorrow first thing after work. I know that usually works when the gear plunger gets stuck and I hope it works for this!!!! :D

I guess sometimes you've got to use the right "hardware", huh.
Bowlcut 03-11-2002, 01:11 AM Well i know when the first one died we beat on the starter quite a bit. That works when the shaft or something is stuck but if the solinoids are dieing that wont help much. Id say its not bad luck or anything just shitty electronics. Kinda like alternators on se-r's. anything but the genuine nissan stuff and it barfs like crazy. Id say lay down that chunk of money for a new one from nissan that should have a warenty then if it barfs keep getting new ones. If it dies after that, id take that battery back to the front just to test it.
Lyn Labahn 03-11-2002, 02:27 AM I had the same problem on my 96 200SX. The stock one gave out, so I replaced it with an Autolite or some crappy brand. That fucker gave out and died too. So, I bought me a Genuine Nissan one, and it has worked since. Had I known, I probably would have bought a used one from Andreas. Check it out, it will save you lots of cash!
ProjectSE-R 03-11-2002, 09:42 AM Thanks guys, I will probably go with a new one for now, just incase it IS my cars electronics. Then all I ahve to do is take it and have it replaced, then put the battery back up front and roll with it. otherwise, I would be out some cash from Andreas if that one died. Ugh, fun fun.
OnyxEros 03-11-2002, 08:08 PM have you tried doing a search in the se-r.net archives? I "think" i remember the same thing happening to a guy on there and he found out what it was and reported back to everyone.
Just a thought
O
ProjectSE-R 03-11-2002, 11:10 PM Well I put a brand spankin new starter in today and nothing. Fusible links read 12.43 volts and that is all the way from the battery in the trunk. I swear, this is a pain in my arse!
Scarpa 03-12-2002, 12:02 AM Check the wires going to the starter from the battery and ignition. If you short the starter does it work? My friend had a problem with starters for a long time, and it turned out his ignition wiring was shitty. Anyway he rewired it better and never had a problem. Must have gone through 6 or so starters before figuring it out.
SmoothDaddyFig 03-12-2002, 12:04 AM After my battery relo my alty died on me.
But after purchasing a brand new one from the dealer at $180 it has never failed me!!! I have the non-mitsubishi one.
