I'm being told that the newer style Bluebird DETs with the forward-facing compressor section outlets come with black top valve covers like the SR20VE NEO VVL ones, just without the NEO VVL badge. Just curious if this is true and also what years the old red tops were in production and, if so, when these black tops came into production, and if the black tops are still in production today.

I just bought a ( I'm not disputing just saying what I was told) what is a newer SR20DET from JGY and it has an aluminum colored valve color (ie. no color at all). My JDM spec SR came with a gold "ish" color. It does have a feed and return line from the block, plus JGY has an impecible reputation.

Yup was just up at JGY's house yesterday looking at one actualy. Just a plain alum valve cover like b14's got. Looks pretty good. Kinda wondering about the turbo outlet ***. Its alot nicer than having to run the U pipe from it to get it to the intercooler but im wondering about any interferance with stuff like the fans. Dont think there is any differences in the engine *** from any other bluebird. The red covers are like early 90's and the alum covers are like 95 up or 96 up i dont remember what he said.

I'll talk a little bit about condition of the motor. I've yet to get it on an engine stand, but: the throttle body doesn't have any lip of carbon forming at all, it's just a little black in there. This surprised me since the tb on my SOKO JDM spec SR's throttle body was stuck and needed alot of carbon crap removed before it could swing freely. The motor was ultra clean and only 1 sensor was broken which was the AAC valve's little connector which came in contact with the pallet. So I'm counting myself lucky on that. They also packaged the black air box thingee and the water outlet from the head to the turbo (?) into a plastic bag, which was very nice. All in all a very good purchase from a very good vendor. I would reccommend him to anyone

I bought the motor specifically without any of the turbo equipment. Without the turbo, manifold, lines, injectors....just basically a long block. It did have the intake manifold and throttle body. That is why I paid so little for this motor.

You dont get the intercooler or any of the pipeing unless you specficaly get the whole front clip. cause the intercooler isnt attached to the engine anyway other than the pipes so i guess it isnt considered part of the package unless its a front clip

Thats wierd....

A question to you swapping guys, my '93 NX has a goldish valve cover and it looks like it has all new motor mounts, the bolts on the tranny and elsewhere were all easy to get loose (well most anyways) - do you think there is a chance the owner before me swapped?
